Sorry to ruin your speedtest results, but those are not even close to accurate (think about server loads etc). The easy way to test your connection speed is to download some big archive, like linux distribution from a known fast server.

Anyway I tried your test and it gave me 570Kbps (of course, I'm from "wrong" country and so on. These tests should always be done at least from the same country, preferably from a server nearby).

Then downloaded a linux distribution from a known Finnish server (not LAN) and the speed was steady at 1,6MB/s (which is just about what this DSL-line will be up to).

That means megabits per second, and that is fast.

Megabits (lowercase b - Mbps) are used with anything transfered over a network or data transfer rates, megabytes (upper case B - MB) refers to storage size or file size.

I usually test mine here:
http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/

It currently gives me these results:
Download Speed: 5273 kbps (659.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 660 kbps (82.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

I like this one. http://www.speedtest.net/

But even this test is more accurate only up to a certain speed. But for your typical home connection it should be fine.

Here is a test I did a couple days ago when I got my new home connection.

Doesn't seem too bad.

Edit: Consistent test results eh?
Download Speed: 15034 kbps (1879.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2317 kbps (289.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
-from speakeasy

2771.7 Kbps (upload I assume? Just says connection speed)
-from CNET
