| silly question, fake rocks
OK, been lookin for rocks for the yard to crawl on. hard to come by in South Texas. Went to landscape places, they are friggin expensive. Anyone ever made rocks??????? composite material, poured concrete, or paper machet type stuff to make rocks??? I figure it would be cheap, and you could make em the way you want..........

It wouldn't be too hard to make your own rocks, but you would have to make a whole lot of them, so it would be VERY time consuming. The easiest way I can think of to make them is to build some sort of frame, wrap it in a mesh, Concrete Fibermesh should work best, but most any fine mesh/screen should work. Then when it is wrapped you would just slather on readymix/concrete and let it dry. Not much in the way of rocks up here either, besides round lake rocks |

There was a topic exactly like this one a while back some people posted some links to some fiber glass fake rocks. I couldn't find it in a search though. Where I live its only $5 for a cubic yard of rocks at the quarry. One place even gives them out for free as long as you load it yourself.

Use expanding foam... it usually comes in a can and you can just squirt it out into the shape that you want, then it expands. You could squirt it out onto a sheet of plywood or even thick cardboard, screw the blobs of expanding foam onto the plywood or cardboard from the back with a few drywall screws and there you have your fake rocks. Give it a few hours to harden then shape it with a knife, flow some fiberglass resin over it for strength if you want to but you probably won't need to go that far.
