Default Is Obama "Special"?

The comment Pres. Obama made about his bowling skills and the Special Olympics on Leno is getting a lot of flack and he has issued an apology. My cousin Tommy, who has competed at the Special Olympics thought the comment was funny and was not offended. Did anyone other than those directly connected with the organization of the Special Olympics find it offending?

I thought it was hilarious, but anything that someone can warp into a "no-no" and throw back at him is very likely to happen. And it's not just with this president-doesn't matter which side you are on, if the other side says that can be interpretted in a negative manner, you can bet your ass it will be.

I don't have an issue with it, but if I were President I sure as hell wouldn't have said it.

It doesn't matter what he does and someone will complain about it. No need to bring things yourself.

X2, no one in any form publically should have said that.

But I like the Special Olympics bowler kid from Michigan whos picking right back. Kid's gotten 3 - 300 games and his average is 266...thats better than I can bowl sober.

Its like that old joke; whats better than winning the gold in the Special Olymics? Not being in the Special Olymics.

I think anyone who really knows how capable those competitors are won't have a problem with it. Also those that know it was meant to be a joke and only a joke won't care either.

Its the upity anal-retentive types who are out to save the world one politicaly un-correct comment at a time that will raise the biggest stink.

I hate the fact that in this world now days we have to be so damn PC. He should be able to say stuff like that without having the media talk about it for 2 days straight. People should be able to say what they want without having to worry about everyones damn feelings. Grow some skin, people are going to make fun of you, get over it.

By him saying he bowled like he was in the special olympics we all know that he meant he was not that good of a bowler, none of us thought he used a wheelchair and drooled all over his shirt while he rolled the ball down the lane.

PS: I am probably 1 of very few people here on RCC that have actually competed in the special olympics;)

Just more proof that what they usually talk about isn't all that important...

And probably the only one that will admit it publicly. You're so brave!

I'm pretty anti-PC, but what Obama said was dumb and I expect better from our president. I believe it is important to respect other people, but that the PC movement is a joke and goes to extremes. Obama's remark was, however, a slip. If you think the media is making a mountain out of a mole hill, imagine if Bush said it. There is no parity.

I agree 100%.

It was dumb of him to say it in the position he is in. If Bush had said that it'd have been on the news for a week straight, there would have had to been a huge public apology, ect.
