|  2012 & the MPS So I thought I would contribute to the doomsday/NWO/judgement day thing with the magnetic pole shift that is supposedly due in December of 2012. Lots of differing opinions, from as catastrophic as a sudden and violent shift in the earths rotation (end of times! wOoT!) to as undramatic as navigations needing recalibrated and animals losing thier sense of direction. The Mayan calender ends on Dec 23rd, 2012. We all know how anal they were about astrology and time... Some say it happens about every 20,000 years, other say once every 1,000,000 years or so. The sun did it in 2001 and again in 2004 (I believe). There is also a movie on its way titled, you guessed it, 2012. Trailers show a huge wall of water wiping everything out. Lots of theological implications with this one as well. God told Moses he would never again flood the earth, yet later on it was mentioned that there would be a cleansing of the earth like in the life of Moses...so who knows. Of course, I may have that wrong as well... Thoughts? |

| from what I read it happens every few thousand years and can be traced in the ocean floors, and the worst that happens is for a few years migratory animals get confused and the magnetic field gets weak and lets extra solar radiation through increasing the chance of skin cancer for a few years. |

| Here's some of my favorite 2012 predictions... 1. The mf will flip, causing a sudden and violent change in the direction of the earths rotation as it has done in the past resulting in worldwide destruction. I'm not a scientist by any stretch of the imagination, but knowing what little I do about mass and movement...that would be impossible. Besides, we're talking about a magnetic field, not the earths core. 2. The mf will flip, causing the earths core to change direction, which will slow, then stop, then reverse the crusts rotation. Ok, so now we are talking about the core. Again, not a scientist, but it would take an incredibly strong magnetic field to reverse the cores rotation. Slow or stop on its own...probable. Reverse rotation? Naw. Also, since the mf is a product of the earths core, what force is there to make it spin the opposite direction? 3. Every XXX amount of years the solar system passes close enough to the galaxies center (in which lives a giant black hole) to cause a large enough distrubance to cause the mf to flip. Yes, there is a black hole at the center of our galaxy. They are known to be great producers of immense gravitational pull and magnetic fields. The problem here is that the center of the galaxy is 28 million odd light years away, and we go around it in a circular orbit, not an elipticle one. Waaay to far away, and we don't even get close for it to be a bother. 4. When the mf shifts, the planet will "flip" because of the weight of the northern ice cap, which is built up by the mf pulling moisture that direction. Funniest yet. If that were true, then there would have to be a gravitational pull coming from below the planet, somewhere out in space. And if it is strong enough to pull the top down, why isn't it strong enough to finish the job and pull us all the way in? The nearest gravitational point that has any real effect on the planet earth is the sun, which is slowly pulling us in, and its pulling at the sides of the earth, not the top or bottom. To add to that, if you were to build a magnet that was disproportionate (fat end, skinny end) and take it into zero gravity, would it be constantly flipping around on it own? However, the amount of force needed to do that would be so great that I would think it would pretty well erase any evidence there was.
