Default Are Shafties competitive anymore?

I was think of spending some cash to make my SWX Axial more competitive. But, everyone seems to be using MOA's now.
Do i sell up and get a MOA truck, or is it worth spilling the cash on my Axial?
Can a Shafty be as competitive as a MOA?

I might be wrong but didn't Austin just get second this pass weekend at ECC with a shafty? He had the lowest score going into the finals. Correct me if I am wrong though.Jason

So, if I read this right, what you're saying, is that a MOA took first place again?

I am not saying that. I am not sure what the winner was driving. I know that it is more about how the rig is setup and how good of a line you drive. You can have the best MOA rig, with the best setup and if you can't drive than you are never going to come out on top. To many people focus on there changing there rigs to what is winning but not focusing on changing there driving style to win!!Jason

All I can say is thank God that people like Austin and Bender are sponsored by Shafty companies because if you gave them a Berg they would dominate the World.

yes, shafties are still competitive. it's about tuning your rig. and IMHO, it's the driver that makes the difference, not the rig.

X2...you can spend all the money in your wallet and max out the credit cards for hop-ups.....it always comes down to learning to drive what you got!!!

But drivers being equal and machines comparable setup, the MOA will win?

3 or 4 weeks ago there was a mid size comp where i was driving my axial and placed 2nd behind rubbaneck, so yes they are competitive, like said before in comes down to the driver.

A stock ax10 kit against a stock Berk kit with the same driver & yes I think that the Berg will perform better. But how many STOCK rigs have you seen being run. A shafty has just as good a chance as a moa, the advantage I see to moa over shafty is torque twist or lack of & lower CG.

After 5 or 6 shafties I am starting my first moa this week.

You must have not been around last year when Austin ran a Berg:-P.....he went back to a shafty, just like me and a bunch of people around the country. I sold mine after nationals(needed the money with work being so slow)but I built another one in february....which I sold a couple weeks after that. I like the consistency of a shafty, I know exactly what it is going to do, not have to worry about whether it will stall and pull you off line. I know you can use the stall to your advantage, but I have seen it be a disadvantage more times than not.
I like that you have to use your head and spend more time to tune a shafty, to make it work to it's full potential. If you like being lazy and don't like being mentally stimulated to to get the most out of your car, build an MOA(what a meaner)

im a basic newb i guess.

and yea, it takes a lil more tuning and wrenching and drilling and yelling to get it tuned right.

then w/ the addition of a dig and a badass radio, i fear bergs no more.

i think it may be easier to set up a berg initially.

but who takes the easy way?
