So here is a stupid funny question for you guys.

Ever since I was little I have loved the BTTF trilogy, I remember going and waiting in line to see them in the theaters, all the little toys I used to get from Pizza Hut and Hardee's.

The wife picked me up the DVD box set a few years back when it came out, and ever since I have wanted to edit the dvd's to play as 1 long movie non stop for 5 hours. I figure since the movie was filmed this way it shouldn't be hard to do, but then again trying to copy and modify a DVD on a computer isn't always easy.

So I pose the questions what do I need to do to make this happen? Is there software on my stock box vista machine that will do it, will I need to download special software? Is it free?

First you need to convert the files to .AVI format
You will also need to get a decent DVD making program. But its got to be one that doesnt over convert the files back to original size. I like to use Xilisoft DVD creator. And you need a program to bypass the security features on the disc. You cant get in trouble as long as you own the original movie on disk, as you are allowed by law to make backup copies of any movie you own. A good program for doing this is DVD Decrypter. I like to use DVDfab decrypter. I wont tell you how to get them, but it involves bitcomet.
This is kinda a convoluted process, your gonna have to do this step by step. So here we go.
1st, put the discs in your DVD drive, and use whichever decrypter you have to decrypt the movie.
2nd. Once you have them all copied, make a whole new folder and title it whatever you want (bttf, or whatever), then make subfolders in it and title them accordingly for episode. Then place all the files from each movie into their respective folders.
3. One at a time, open the Video_Ts file, and convert it to AVI format using a Mpeg4 to AVI converter, like the xilisoft dvd to avi converter.
4th. After converting them over, place the files in seperate, new folders just for the converted .AVI files.
5th. Once you have them all converted to .avi, you can start the process of burning.

What your gonna need is a dual layer burner, and some dual layer disks. (not the 4.7gb, but the 8.5gb)

1st, insert the dual layer disk into the dual layer drive.
2nd. Open xilisoft DVD creator (which is about the best one that wont seriously use massive amounts of space.
Follow the instrucitons as to what files you want to add to the DVD, start your burn. Be sure to add a menu pictures, and be sure you select the "make chapters" and the "make menu" button, also pay extra attention to two other things. First, regardless of what screen format you want to us, select the 4:3 on xilisoft. Second, Adjust the volume setting to at least 3/4 to max. Or you'll be cranking the volume.
3rd. Now that you have one setup, follow the previous steps to add the rest of the movies to the DVD. (using the tutorial in the program helps).
4th. Once you get all the movies setup and ready to burn. Start your burn. The program will convert your .AVI file to the needed MPEG4 that the DVD reads.
5th. wait for it to be finish burning, and enjoy.

One final thing. You need to remeber that you wont be getting any of the "extra" content. There just isnt anyway to convert that using the simpler programs, and even if you could, you couldnt get it all on one disk.

Seriously, it sounds like a cool project... I've always wanted to d the same thing with The Matrix, Kill Bill and The Lord of The Rings (you know, for those days when I have like 15hrs. to kill, LOL!)

its gonna be real tought to fit the back to the future trilogy on one disk, but fitting the lord of the rings on one disk... I think you'd have to have a quad layer ultra edition blue ray disk. (which obviously doesnt exist)

One of these may help tho

I'll try to get all three LOR's on one disk tonight tho, just for shits and giggles

I tried, and tried to get all three of the Lord of the Rings onto one disk...
It cant be done. I converted them over at the lowest bitrate possible, cut out all of the credits, cut the movies down in size until the exact second they started and ended, converted them back to mpeg4 with the lowest settings possible, switched them all to 4:3, even tried removing the audio... Best I could get them down to was 9.8gb... damn

Keeping the audio the best I gould get them down to was 11.7gb.

so much for that.

On the fip side, I did get all the Back to the Futures on one disk

I'm not looking to have it on one disk, I have a good machine hdmi'd to the 37" flatscreen, so i'm happy to play it right off the hard drive!

If you plan to play it from hdd you can try convert-x to dvd. You can add any media file then the program recodes it to dvd format in either dvd5 or dvd9 capacity. You can also choose to save the project in the HD instead of burning it to a disc.
