Default computer help

the hard drive on my desktop took a dump, Im not to computer smart when it comes to the hardware side, if I get a new harddrive for it what else do I need to get i.e. operating system software etc.?

If you still have the original install disks for your software you should be able to reload the system using those.

so even with the new hard drive I would only need the origanal boot disk?

If you put a new harddrive in then its going to have to have some sort of opperating system on it.
Now if the computer you bought was produced by a major computer company then you should be able to get a operating system disk through them.

If not you will have to either buy one or ...ehmmmmmmm

No, once you put your HD in, then power up your PC, open the disk drive and insert your operating system disk.... it should do the rest.

If it doesnt automatically load the operating system from the disk, then reboot and push the f12 (or whatever button you push at startup to enter your BIOS setup) then set your bios to load from your cd/dvd drive first... save and exit and your good to go

You'll need all the dirvers as well. Also the software installed on it.

Depending on the make of the unit, sometimes their only restore or discs are on a second partition, if thats the case you are screwed. You'll have to find discs you can use, or call the maker and pay them for copies.

How old is the computer? Probably wanna make sure you get the right type of hard drive... either SATA or EIDE I believe

can someone give me a little insite that knows a little more about computers then I do, my desktop when I power it up will go through the process like its going to load up, the screen is all black and has the windows xp logo and the little loading bar and once it tries to go to the next page it goes black and text on the screen says "no sync" How do I fix this?
