This topic was something I was thinking about earlier. I have a seat that is due to be replaced.

Reasons I see a seat to get "crappy" is...

-Caused by those that slam the seat down
-Caused by the ploppers who slam their asses down too fast.
-Some lean to the right, some lean to the left to wipe.. causes excessive side loads on the hinges. This can be worse depending on the weight of the human.
-Caused by temperatures that fluctuate too much and allow the seat to expand and contract.
-Caused by people just don't give a fawk

Now, my question for this topic is this,

When buying a new toilet seat, how do you pick the right one? Will Home Depot or Lowes let you "try on" the seat to your ass like a shoe? Seriously, I want a seat that I will enjoy when sitting there reading my favorite magazines that are 10 years old. I don't want to sit down and think, "What the fawk am I sitting on?".. "This hurts my big ass!". Anyone?

How do I find the right toilet seat?

I think all of the above is shortening the life of my seats.

Apparently its a matter of trial and error. The poofy ones are nice, but once they lose thier cushyness they are terribly uncomfortable.

The hard pressboard ones wear more evenly, but thier cheap construction makes for an uncomfortable sit.

Hardwood seats tend to be the best IMO, though can be pricy. Much more craftsmanship and thought is put into them.

My suggestion would be to measure your posteriour in the squatting position, both fore and aft, and take those measurements to your local toilet outfitter.
