Decision of the International Tribunal

The Tribunal, after having heard the parties and examined their submissions, decided that:

Mercedes be reprimanded;
Mercedes be suspended from participating in the forthcoming “three day young driver training test”;
Pirelli be reprimanded.

and rejected all other and further conclusions.

'This decision follows (i) the disciplinary proceedings instigated by the FIA, on the basis in particular of the report by the Stewards of the Monaco Grand Prix, forwarded to the FIA following the two protests made by Scuderia Ferrari Team and Red Bull Racing respectively, and (ii) the hearing that took place yesterday before the International Tribunal with the participation of all the parties concerned.

The FIA wishes that lessons are learnt from this case and from the decision handed down. To this end, the FIA will make sure, in association with all F1 teams, that its control of the testings is strengthened.

It is recalled that the notification of the FIA International Tribunal's decision opens to each of the parties concerned the possibility of bringing an appeal against this decision before the FIA International Court of Appeal within 7 days.'

With Mercedes' board talking about pulling out of F1, and Pirelli the sole tire supplier, I'm not surprised with the weak penalties...

What happened to the days of $100,000,000 fines and exclusion in constructors championship.

Anxiously awaiting to hear what Ross Brawn had to say so I looked.

Test storm made Mercedes stronger, says Ross Brawn-Sports News - IBNLive Mobile

And I'm putting this here for me for later: Motorsport Listen to Renault

Well I should have figured it was too good to last...

NBC mother Fuk'd everybody who watched the delayed race today. To add insult to injury, not only did they time delay it for the bike tour of frogville, those of us who DVR'd it, the instant we pressed play were not greeted by the start grid but by some shithead at a news desk recapping the race...

Fuk you NBC.

On a side note, I have a slightly used set of Pirelli's for sale, PM me.

Ya, the first image I got was of Rosberg spewing champaign
That old adage of "once you see it" rings true here...spoiled it for me for sure.

There was some good racing at the end though...

Yep, NBC screwed the pooch. They also messed up Monaco. Cable Guide did not show the live race only the later replay.

Exploding tires are cool! Definitely made it exciting.

Adds a "Running Man"'element to the race, next they need plasma energy cannons bolted to the front wing (Driver Reduction System)...

"Fortunately they (Pirelli) don't make condoms," joked German tennis legend Boris Becker, according to Welt newspaper.

Pirelli has done a lot of damage to their reputation. However I do find it humorous that the team car they used for the recent testing was the first to pop in the race. Kind of ironic I guess.

Pirelli was asked to make tires that make the race more interesting for the spectators, I think they succeeded.

I am not sure that they damaged their reputation. I do not expect my left rear production tire to explode.

I understand. But I think they have. The racers all said the same thing while being interviewed about what needs to be said. "Nothing."

And, "They're putting lives in danger."

Reminds me of the Firestone Ford Exploder debacle. Granted I'm rolling on Firestone Winterforce tires, so yeah…

Ironically almost the same issue...

It was concluded the Firestones were failing due to improper tire pressure (too low). The sidewall flexed excessively causing material fatigue/catastrophic failure resulting in rollover.

Early speculation is the teams were using lower (than reccomended) pressures causing excessive sidewall flex/heating causing the "new" adhesive to fail and delamination/catastrophic failure to occur.

If the teams are anything like every other racer out there that cares about getting the most out of the tire, they run the exact pressure they need to get even temps across the entire surface of the tire, and don't care otherwise. Camber and castor have something to do with that also, and Pirelli has suggested no more than 3.5 degrees of camber I believe. Then there's ride height. The teams need a quite specific pressure. If Pirelli is telling them otherwise, and the cars aren't doing their best, those suggested pressure are all for naught. And the tire is not good enough. And these tires are not good enough, and dangerous.

I agree, I wasn't implying the teams are at fault. Their job is to wring 125% out of rules and materials, if a tire should fail it should be in a safe (controlled) manner.
