Default How to turn a $2 Million Bugatti into a submarine

http://www.galvestondailynews.com/st...2e1da427373dfb

LA MARQUE — The owner of one of the world’s fastest production automobiles accidentally drove his fine-tuned, French-built car into a saltwater lagoon Wednesday.

The man, who police said was from Lufkin, was uninjured after escaping the partially submerged Bugatti Veyron as it came to rest in about 2 feet of saltwater.

The two-seater, with 16 cylinders and four turbo chargers, can reach speeds of more than 250 mph. New models sell for about $2 million.

The man, who refused to give his name, was looking at real estate in Galveston.

About 3 p.m. a low-flying pelican distracted him as he traveled north on Interstate 45 just south of the hurricane levee near Omega Bay.

The man jerked the wheel, dropped his cell phone, and the car’s front tire left the frontage road and entered a muddy patch, which foiled his attempt to maneuver away from the lagoon.

The Veyron’s powerful engine gurgled like an outboard motor for about 15 minutes before it died.

Police and firefighters blocked the frontage road until MCH Towing employee Gilbert Harrison carefully winched the car away from riprap and onto the soft, muddy bank.

It’s the rarest car in the world, not something you can just replace, the man said.

An Associated Press story in October mentioned a 2006 model Veyron for sale in Jonesboro, Ark., with an asking price of $1.25 million.

One of the prospective buyers was from Texas.

That Bugatti Veyron was one of only 200 made and one of only about 15 in the United States, the AP reported.

Isn't "dropping your cellphone" slang for "I was getting a blowjob from a hooker?"

Its reason like this why NY has laws against driving while talking on your cell phone...These days I find that people do every thing while driving except for driving safely.

Yeah just like in California it's illegal to talk on a cell phone and drive at the same time.

Texas has laws that limit talking on your cell phone while driving. Currently, they are only in school zones is certain counties. Hopefully we'll soon expand that to everywhere...

So people shouldn't own a vehicle of any kind especially that one, He let it run under water for 15 minutes before it died....WTF was he trying to stay warm under water?

I can't believe that it ran for 15 minutes under water! That motor will cost a few buck to rebuild! Body looked like it was fine though. I didn't see any real damage?

why the hell would you do that and let your car idle until it dies? ESPECIALLY FOR 15 MIN!!! the motor is done for sure where as if he had shut it off when he entered he might have been able to salvage it... oh well he probably has the money to buy another instead... GIVE IT TO ME

edit.. darn tattookenny you beat me to it lol
yeah not much damage... but it's salt water not fresh so it'll be worse than it sounds i bet

Yep, outlaw cell phones in cars. Then we outlaw eating or drinking in cars (like in England). More accidents are caused by adjusting the stereo, so lets get rid of them. Tons of accidents happen because people are yellin and smackin there kids in the car, so lets get rid of kids, or disallow parenting in cars. Hell, lets just ban talking to your passenger in the car!

Oops, forgot shaving, reading, and putting on makeup!

this is about the only car out that i wouldn't keep running, keeping it running keeps water from flooding the motor threw the exhaust. in this case though it only runs on half the motor unless you turn on the second key, so the crankcase flooded. anything else you want to keep running if the intake is out of the water.

these things burn a tank of gas in like ten minutes floored with both keys on, which is a good thing cause the tires melt off in 15. thats fast.
