You can't just sign up for a GMail (Google mail) account, you have to be invited to GMail by a current GMail user.

Right now, Gmail is technically beta. They're not allowing anyone to just go sign up to get a gmail account. If you don't know what gmail is, you've been in a freakin' cave the last few months.  Google it.So what they do is send out invites to the existing users, who can then give them away to other people so they can get their own account. I waited awhile, thinking it was all hype, but then realized that if I waited to long, my user name would be taken (I've used Jeckler for 9 years). Got my account a couple weeks ago, now I got invites to give away. Personally, I think they use the invite system just to make sure they can keep a handle on the number of sign-ups.... |

| Re: Want gmail? www.gmail.com It's an e-mail service. Like Yahoo, Hotmail, ect. Gmail is better than those though. You get a gigabyte of storage space, and a bunch of nifty features. It is still in late prototype stages supposedly, so not just anyone can sign up for it. You have to be invited by a current member. I have 6 invites also. Just PM me the same info Jeckler listed, and you can have your very own Gmail account. |

Yep....one that lives in a cave! I didn't mean to sound like a jerk. sorry......that gmail just isn't for me. I don't get what the point is. I have my company email, home email, hotmail, etc......what more does one need? |

I didn't take it that way. The main reason I got mine was to secure the username. It is kinda cool though, threaded email, never have to delete anything. I think I saw a toolbar you can download that tells you when you have new mail, even when the browser's closed. |
