Default Car Audio Discussion...

I just felt like starting a General Car Audio Discussion for the audiophiles out there. Tips, Tricks, Good equiptment, Ect... Lets hear what you are running and what little tuning tips you have to offer? Myself, I am into clear, accurate sound quality. Not just a tarded kicker sub in the trunk... Trying to get the most out of control bass possible...

Although, I am not finished with it, I am going to be running the following goodies in my Blazer:

Lanzar Opti-Drive 5.25 component set in the front powered by a JBL BP300.1 amp. Probably a Lanzar Opti-Drive mono-block amp, about 2000 watts for the sub, and an Opti-Drive 12 inch sub. Decent Pioneer head unit. 150 amp alternator and an extra battery in the back. Everything will be running off the battery in the back.... Even the head unit.

I do someday hope to just pony up and buy higher end goodies. But for now, this will be great. I am not sure what I wanna run in the future, besides some goodies from Image Dynamics...

I run this head unit.
http://www.woofersetc.com/p6464/DEHP...lity-Audio.htm
I will never buy another unless something happens to this one. I have had one of everything. Nothing even comes close to the SQ and adjust ability of this one. The 24 bit burr brown with 16 band eq for each speaker is awesome. Takes awhile to figure out. But when you get it dialed in.....
I am running some special Kenwood Excelon 6.5s in all 4 doors. They were made a few years ago with the neodymium magnets and won speaker/innovation of the year award. Best midbass setup i have ever ran. (And yes i have ran MB quartz/ Bostons/ JL..Blah- blah yada yada)
Worked in car stereo for years!!

AMPS... Soundstream rubicons!!!!
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...=3&brand_id=64

Remember when these were in every car at the stereo competitions?
There back and better than ever.

And the lanzars you are talking about are actually good amps. The internal boards are almost exactly the same as the soundstream, a few components inside are a little cheaper. But good amps for the dough.

I run any sub i can make a box for. I have subs from 6.75 to 15 inches.
Actually use the 6.75 the most. The box i built for it matched it perfect. Sounds more like a ten. It really surprises folks when i show them that such a little speaker was making all the noise.

Its all in the box if you ask me. The best speaker wont sound worth a flip in the wrong box.

The12volt.com has helped me alot when i needed some info.

Current system at the moment.

Current head unit is a pioneer deh-5000UB. For the midbass, im running PPI 356CS comps up front, and some pioneer 6x9's out back all being powered by a MB Quart DSC 4125. For the substage i'm currently using 2 DC audio lvl 4 12's, being powered by a Sundown SAZ-2000D. All in a 4.4 cubic feet box tuned to 34 hertz.

Electrical - Big 3 done, 1/0 all the way back, yellow top under the hood.

That's about it.

Here. But moved on to home audio after realizing car audio is silly if you're seriously trying to listen to the music.

Still have an old Phoenix Gold MPS-2x24 watt 2 channel amp that was a low ohm driving monster back in the day. Safe to like 1/16 ohm or something. Back when cheater amps just came out. It had a direct rival amp, but I just... oh I thought of it!!!! Precision Power. Oh yeah, good times. I was a teenager.

Now I like tube amps, single driver horn loaded speakers and records.

I run a Pioneer DEH-P880PRS head unit. An earlier version of the one that Rottenbelly linked to. Has all the same specs.
Door speakers are (4) Alpine SPR-17S http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...e_SPR-17S.aspx
driven by a Kicker KX550.2.
Subs (2) Kicker L7 15" in a custom built ported box tuned to 40hz. Powered by a Kicker KX2500.1.
2 Optima yellow top batteries under the hood. So far the factory 145 amp alt. is holding up. It will be replaced with something stronger when it starts to falter.

Old skool anything. Soundstream, PPI, Rockford, JL, Xtant, Pioneer, Alpine. Good luck...

I do own an old skool Rockford Fosgate Symetry. With the 24 band Eq card. Will trade for a scaler?

I just got a new head unit for Christmas, Alpine CDA-105. It's awesome. the best feature is the USB port. I can load my flash drive full of music and play!

All of my other stuff is at least 8 years old but it still pumps out good sound.

Crossfire 1000D (1200 rms watts @ 1 ohm) for bass
Crossfire 402 for mids and highs

2- 12" Virtual Technologies Hammer Pro DVC
Alpine S series 6 1/2" component set
Clarion 7 band 1/2 DIN EQ

The box in my Z71 is a tad too small for the subs but they still sound good. I have been having an issue with one channel for my mids and highs, I fear the source of the problem is the amp. I need to do some troubleshooting the next time I get the chance.

My job is car audio (and starts) And I roll with a freebie pioneer head and some freebie memphis bynines!!!!! Last car with a system was a murdered out escort wagon with all memphis in it except the woofers. Four diamond D3 12's in a vented enclousure designed by diamond. One memphis 1500d on them. Did a 144 on a new mic which I was told would be about 155 on an old mic. I like it when I can't swallow! Got pulled over by a cop for sound ordinance and he was like "I heard you for 5 minutes before I seen you and your playing the rolling stones?!!!" Apparently he could "hear me knocking"! I'm too old for it anymore.

I hear that, but I still driveso much, that I would rather invest it into that.

Anyone have some high end goodies they wanna let go of? I am still open to options for my sub/amp combo as I have not bought anything new yet.

Current set-up:

Headunit: Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD
Speakers: Mid/High Pack Stock Scion (Soon to be 4x Pioneer "D" Series 6.5" and 2x Pioneer "D" Series 4.5")
Subs: 2X Pioneer TS-SW1201S4 in custom boxes under the seat
Amp: 2800Watt mono block (can't remember the manufacturer).
4ch 760watt amp (can;t remember manufacturer, for the mids and highs, yet to be installed)
30gb iPod for music playback

I am going for a rig that gets loud, but not all the low end like most like. I want the mids and highs to keep up with the subs.

I am currently working on modifying a sound processor that I use for live sound to work in my car. If I can get the power for it figured out, it will give me a 4 input x 20 outputs or 8 input x 16 outputs. Each input and output will have a seperate 15-band fully parametric EQ, HPF, LPF, Compression, Limiting, Auto lever (for those quiet songs), and level controls. With the ability to set up 8 separate volume controls linked to whatever inputs or outputs. All for less than $2000.00 new, $500.00 used.

I hear ya there. I laugh at all the dweebs in the "Hood" that put an obnoxious sub in their trunk, but use stock speakers, or just deck power... I am on the same quest. I want it to all sound accurate and clean.

Old school Soundstream Reference amps, MB Quart Components all around, Old School Soundstream SPL 10's. Still hit EXTREMELY hard and clean for 13 year old subs that have been driven hard since 1997! Not changing em till I have to!

Soundstream Old school technology still out performs the new soundstream stuff IMO. The new soundstream is better than the crap from a few years ago but still does not hold a candle to the Old School stuff! Reference 500's FTW! And the old Picasso is DA BOMB!

Way back in the day (1997ish) I had two 10" eclipse subs, PPI amp, Soundstream amp, 2 sets of 5x7 eclipses', Clarion Pro-Audio head unit, etc in a reg cab '93 Ranger. It was loud!!

IIRC: 134dbl?

Pretty much had factory stuff in all my vehicles since then, the factory stuff has gotten SO much better! I blew the factory sub in my Mountaineer a few years ago and replaced it with a polk audio sub.
(it was cheap, & 8" subs were hard to find.)

I'm running OLD Skool PPI art series amps, 2 jl8"w7's and focal 5 1/4" separates with an old excelon in my car. My wifes car I'm running a JBL crown monoblock and a jbl gto 4ch. mids and highs are infinity, along with a alpine 12" xseries. I want to redo both cars but not sure if I want to tear the whole interior out and redo the fiberglass.
