What really gets me excited is the thought of being able to write the program to make that machine do that."thumbsup"8)

Yea that was bad ass example of deckel 5 axis doing work, ive seen deckel's do a tennis shoe before, but the helmet was way more impressive, The software they used to make that program interests me more than the machine. it had some killer tool  crash detection..

I doubt anyone wrote much at all. If you got the money for a machine like that, you probably have the money for a million point 3D laser scanner. Simply mount a helmet on a table, run the laser and it sends the drawing to the computer.

how many lines of code you think that was? 10,000?

The machine that cut my heads had to be a bad MOFO.
I wish I had some better pics .

I would love to have a 5 axis machine.
Only problem would be,I'd be clueless on the programming.

I have got a sherline mill 5axis machine, it is ready for cnc but I havent set it up yet because of the programming. I have a hard enough time as it is just figuring out how ot run the thing manually....cool vid though

SOFTWARE........It's all in the software. I wonder how many lines of code were needed to run that. And how many hours it took to run.

Helmets are cool.......but I think this is a more interesting subject:

Has to be millions of lines of code for that helmet.

One of my favorites. You can hear the machine and the chips hitting the glass.

Totally agree on the lines of code. I do some 3d contoured parts for a customer. One part is cut from a block of aluminum measuring 3" x 6" x 2" and I cut 2 at a time on a 3 axis machine. To cut those 2 parts is 1,098,000 lines of code.
