My mother got this in an email : Hi Everyone, Well all the tallies have been counted, but we will not know the winner of the Perfect Pooch 2010 until March 7th. All I know is they told me that Hendrix did make it to the top 3. WOW that is top 3 out of over 800 dogs entered. I wrote a story for the newspaper and wanted to share it with everyone. The original story I wrote could not be printed as it was written by Hendrix. The paper could not print a story written first person by a dog. Oh well. I rewrote the story and think it came out pretty good. I have put the letter in this email for anyone interested in reading it. Thanks Lorie & Hendrix My pup Hendrix has a wonderful, heartwarming story. It begins on a warm June day in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia when a sweet momma dog brought him, three sisters and a brother into this world. Life seemed perfect for them, but then tragedy struck and their lives changed in an instant. On June 30th momma dog was hit by a car and killed. The five puppies were only 10 days old. Second Chance Boxer Rescue soon found out about the sad situation and quickly had the puppies transported to two separate foster homes in New Jersey. As luck would have it, at this exact moment my family and I were looking for a puppy to add to our lives. We decided a rescue pup was the way we wanted to go and when we were approved for adoption by SCBR, we started our search in earnest. On the website, I was saddened and touched by the story of these brave young boxer puppies. After a quick family meeting, we decided we wanted to foster all FIVE of the puppies, reuniting the family. Fortunately for us and the SCBR, I am certified and trained to care for orphaned animals. I knew what we were getting into, including the bottle feedings every 1 ˝ hours day and night. So, along with my mother and my eight year old daughter, we made the trip to New Jersey to gather up the whole puppy family and bring them to their new foster home. The little family settled into their new foster home and along with my husband and three young daughters we fed, cleaned and loved these puppies as they grew strong, healthy and active. When they had reached two months, the time had come for them to be adopted and move to their permanent homes. During our time with the puppies, we were constantly charmed and entertained by the sweet natured and playful solid brown pup we called Hendrix. As the others were finding their new families and homes, we decided that we wanted Hendrix to stay as part of our family. In the six months since the adoption, Hendrix has grown and grown… and grown. He continues to charm us, making us laugh with his silly antics and stumbling over his giant paws. After those first few traumatic weeks of his life, it is wonderful to see him so happy and carefree. We love him more and more every day, and we are so happy to have him as part of our family. |
