| !!warning to all isuzu trooper/axiom/honda passport owners!!
A friend of mine recently lost control of her 2001 Isuzu Rodeo at 70mph and almost wrecked. She said she was driving along and the rear end started "wagging" uncontrollably. She bought it from the first owner, has low miles and was VERY well maintained. Upon closer inspection, the rear leaf spring shackle on the driver side broke loose from the frame due to severe rust, and both rails on both sides are COMPLETELY rotted out beyond repair. I did a google search of this and quickly found out that Rodeos/Passports/Axioms between 1997-2002 have problems with the frame rusting out and BREAKING due to low quality steels/insufficient coating. If you know anyone that owns any of these vehicles, please let them know that there have been serious injuries and possibly deaths due to loss of control and that they need to have their frames thoroughly inspected! Most vehicles dont have any body rust, so theres nothing topside to suspect that the chassis might be rusted through.

Thanks for your smartass opinion, see how it changes if someone in one of these vehicles goes out of control and takes out someone you know.. My reasoning for posting this up was to INFORM people, I go as far as talking to complete strangers that I see driving them. Pass the word or STFU!!! | |

Explanes why I don't see those here in the Chicago Area anymore. I'm suprised one from that far south did that, I though even the Toyotas were safe down there.

My Aunt was all about her Izuzu Trooper until it was tipped over buy a 10pmh wind draft, in the snow and she slid into a ditch. That's why you don't see that many on the road anymore. Thanks for the update, but these problems with these makes are not surpising...hence the jocularity.:? |

Damn, I'll stick with my stock height Cherokee, I kinda like being able to take corners faster than 5mph without it trying to grind the mirrors off................

So if it was "Very well maintained" how did the frame rails rust out so fast?

I've seen plenty of mid 80's to early 90's wranglers doing the same thing. I looked at an 1985 last week that I could stick my thumb through the frame rails in the rear..
