| Hub Caps Suck
I pulled a hub cap off a truck yesterday. The freakin thing cut me. Now I have 2 cut tendons and nerve damage. I'm going in for surgery tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. The doc says I'll have a $10,000 finger that won't work as well as the one I was born with. A cast for atleast 1 week. A hand immobiliser for 6 weeks. Physical therapy for another 6 weeks. A bum finger for life. Sounds good to me. We'll see how much of that he'll get right. Here is a pic of it right now. |

I feel your pain man... I ran 2 of my fingers on my right hand through a table saw about 5 years ago... they were hanging on by nothing but skin just above the first joint. Doc sewed me back together, but said he didn't know what kind of mobility I would have once they took all the pins out.... Well 6 weeks down the road, they took all the pins out, and I couldn't make them move more than a couple of degrees. I started working the joints with my other hand for the first 3 or 4 days... then I could start moving them on their own. After about 2 weeks, I could make the fingers into a fist, but it hurt like hell. Soon as I could do that, I got me a set of these and worked the hand pretty much non stop for the next month. The fingernails and stuff are still messed, but I have full range of motion and full strength, although the circulation really sucks and those fingers get cold really easily. The specialist said he had never seen someone recover so completely so fast... So ya... pick a set of those up for sure... should be $10 bucks just about anywhere. Good luck with the mending bro, and keep us updated with your progress. |

| Are the tendons completely cut, any movement at all. Do you know which tendons? EDC's and EIP's, not sure which does what. Good Luck tomorrow. ;) If you still need therapy in a couple of years, I can help ya out! |

Thanks for the support guys. One of the little clips on the edge went under the skin. Dug around and caused the damage. Willis yours sounds a lot worse than mine. I'm a mountain biker and use one of these for grip strength. http://www.powerballs.com/ It has done wonders for my mangled hands. CSR they are the two front ones. I don't know what there called. There is no movement at all infront of the cut Last edited by Cole82; 01-30-2006 at 04:22 PM. |

I've seen those on-line before, but wouldn't order something I hadn't actually tried... looks cool tho. I ride as well, still haven't joined the disc brake crowd, so I know what you mean about hand strength. Getting slowed down from 30+ mph with 2.75 tires, and only v-brakes takes alot of squeezin'. Hopefully this year tho, slowly siphoning the $2K for a new steed from my beer budget. :P |

My chart just says "right index flexor tendon repair" Those things are nuts. They are so hard to hold on to once you spin them up fast. I use hydro disk and mech. disk. The mech suck compared to the hydro's. If I did it over I wouldn't have a set of mech on any of my bikes. |

You'll have to get used to the left hand for giving the avatar booty the spankings now.

Ya... My V-brakes work better than my buddy's cable pull discs, as long as it's not wet. I've ridden a few hydrolics and they are absolutely incredile as far as stopping power goes... Anything more than 1 finger on the front lever, and you're over the bars...

That's why the first thing I do to a car is pry off the hubcaps. They are heavy AND ugly to boot!

Sorry to hear about you hand, I've cut mine doing the same thing, but nothing near that bad. After the first time I started wearing Mechanics M-PactII gloves, they've saved me a quite a few times already. Good luck with the surgery and recovery, hope it was on the job. |

I see you ride moutain bikes, I work for a mountain bike company and ride as well. This can give you an excuse to get yourself some nice Hydraulic discs :-P to ease that finger pain . I have Hayes Nines on my Azure and I like the new Avid juiceys. I also have a nice set of Hayes El Caminos that I might try ...but I road a few sample/demo bikes with them and didnt like them as much. What kind of bike do you ride? later Mike
