In my dorm we are having a contest of who can make the fastest drag racer under 40 bucks. My main quesion is how to rig the gearing for the rear axle. Im going to use a 540 facing straight straight. How can i rig this?

LOL Jason! Dont run the motor facing straight. Run it so that the motor shaft is parallel to the axle. Pointing the motor front to rear means you have to make a 90 degree turn in the gears to drive the rear end, like a bevel ring and pinion. That is always less efficient than a spur gear drive where the motor shaft and the axle are parallel. |

You could run it with the motor longtitudinal to the chassis but its too much of a pain and with a budget of fourty bucks it would be a bit hard. You would need a normal pinion gear on the motor and a spur gear with the gears coming off the side of the gear . This may have to be made up to your specs, but again too much Ginnin about. Just do it like Griz said or go the whole hog as Jason said and buy a Toy rocket and tape it on to your chassis. |
