I've got a picture hunting mission for somebody, 'cause I can't seem to find it. Actually, there are two pics I can't find...


First is a pic from the '50's or '60's of a dragster. It was taken just seconds before the guy crashed and died. Before this particular run he attached an air dam to the underside of the car which ultimately caused his demise. It created so much downforce at speed that it literally flattened and buckled the front wheels (you can see it in the pic).

The second is of a drag car from about the same era. Its launching off the line with its front wheels in the air, while simultaneously the engine is puking its internal parts out onto the asphalt.

That'll probably be a fuel altered.........they seemed to have all sorts of "issues"

Actually, that might be it. Its been 10+ years since I've seen the photo, so all the details are a bit fuzzy. Unless there is another pic taken about a half second before that one, I'd say its what I was looking for.

I've always loved that pic. The crankshaft and flywheel on the ground, the driver looking down as if to say, "Eww, I got stuff on my pants!" Altereds, diggers, and gassers are the shit.

I kind of remember this one to. I'm thinking it was more of a head on shot in black and white and one of the famous fuel altered's,
maybe "Winged Express", " Pure Hell", "Rat Trap"?

You should post those questions on the HAMB or at least go look over there. If those pics exist, I guarantee those guys know of it and have copies.
