Other than the color I personally like it. My Dad's tow rig set me on the path to liking Orange and square peg round hole bodies.

Sweet! I love old stepside trucks. Most people didn't which is why they didn't stick around.

The old bed looks way out of place on the new body style, looks like just what it is. And most people didn't like stepsides because you give up bed space and gain nothing, other than looks, which is subjective. I've seen setpside trucks that look decent, but I'd buy a fleetside every time.

One thing I find funny about this post, how many modern 4dr light duty f/s trucks have a bed that doesn't have any more length....or even as much..... as this bed does.

A girl I was dating back in the 90s wanted a Z-71 step-side in the worst way. I used to joke that you couldn't haul anything wider than a coffin in it.

Definitely looks over function. But most pickup beds don't get used anyway except to haul new Uggs back home.

True. If was buying a pickup that I knew I was working, I would rather opt for a flat bed with stake sides to really maximize hauling and not lose space to the wheel wells.

Mine is a 89' Stepside and yes it does suck when it only fits 2-1/5 scale and 1-1/8 scale with barely room for a crawler, spare tires etc.

It’s width you lose with a stepside, not length.

A step side is still the same width as a 4x8 sheet of plywood, legnth wise, you can still fit more in one of these beds. Hell, get you kid a PowerWheel and those will still fit in this bed with room to spare, or you would have room to throw a sleeping bag back there so long as you're under 5'11".

Were the old fleet sides really no wider than a step side? I'm asking because I honestly don't know. And you can only haul a 4x8 sheet in a long bed if you want the tail gate up, regular bed is only 6.5ft. I know in the late 90's they were definitely narrower and shorter than a fleet side. Buddy had to get a trailer for his '98 Z71 because his Honda 400EX ATV wouldn't fit in the bed without smashing the fender arches with the foot pegs, and still had to leave the tail gate down to haul it even then. I guess the difference is that the step side inner fenders protrude into the bed, whereas a fleet side does not.

Between the fenderwells, they're about the same as a stepside, same thing with the RamBox beds from FCA too. The earliest "Fleetside" trucks, the Chevy Cameo and Dodge Sweptline were just bed sides that lined up with the cab sheetmetal and were attached to the standard Stepside box. The Cameo's bed sides were made from fiberglass specifically for that model of truck while the Sweptline Dodge used the quarter panels from their 2dr station wagons, both of which were attached to the normal box. Honestly, I think those boxes were used from the 50's all the way into the 80's for all three, and I think GM was the only one that actually changed the fenders when they restlyed the trucks!

She said it was. However the summer heat, hurricanes and forced evacuations kind of soured her on Florida.

All this talk of pickup truck beds... leads me to this -

The futuristic approach to running to Home Depot for wood:

The Bollinger B1 Electric - and a 4-door is next - these are really sweet, love the utility! And you can take the back half of the top off, and the doors too...

But if you look at the older style square bodies, they're actually more squared off on the stepsides
