Could be, Dad always said those were some of the easier cars to beat onthe street back in the day. Since even the good tires kinda sucked back then, the cars wouldn't hook like that and spend almost as much time trying to go sideways as they were going straight. When he and his uncle built up his parent's '63 Riv (sorry, no pics), the reinforced the living hell out kf that X-Frame and run Firestone road race rain tires (they were the biggest, stickiest, and most legal looking tire he could find) to get that big Nailhead to hook up.

when i worked on the army account i got to design all their racing stuff for the top fuel sponsorship. i got to stand right off the side of the staging lanes with a photographer.

the spl's were so crazy you couldnt focus when those cars launched and it jiggled/tickled all your internals. tony schumacher said the acceleration was pretty crazy, but its the deaccelration thats the most intense.
