Sober, Drink, or Drunk ?

Just curious...

This year will be my 12th year of sobriety from booze, beers, or any alcoholic beverage for that matter.

So I'm a sober drunk.

It's been almost 3 years dry for me. I quit the day me and Lacey found out Marley was on the way! So its been 2 years and 11 months. I was a very heavy, daily drinker. We lived upstairs from a bar downtown and Lacey was/is a bartender! So drinking was just a part of life for us. But being a daddy is more important to me than drinking.;-)

Way cool, congrats bro !!!
For all the right reasons too.

Used to love to get some drinks in me... My Diabetes has put a stop to drinking for me.

I still do get a laugh out of some of my drinking friends.

I used to drink more heavily, but now, I prefer to just have a beer or two. In the winter, I like a shot of bourbon when I come in out of the cold.

On a rare occaision, I'll drink a 6 pack or more, but only around close friends and if somebody else is going to drive. I've probably only done that 4 or 5 times in the past year...if that.

Drinking just isn't a high priority any more.

Having 2 kids makes me want to drink more then I actually do....

It takes me a week or 2, sometimes 3, to finish a 12 pack...

I was a heavy drinker in my 20's, you know hanging with buddies, or going to clubs. I did most of my drinkin on the weekends. when the bell rung at work on Fri till Sunday night, and on Wednesday night "drink or drown" I had a alcoholic beverage in my hand (sometimes two). When we went to the beach i stayed drunk the whole time.:ror: Now days, I have one every once in a while. I have actually had beer so long that I have thrown them away unopened.:oops:

I used to drink quite a bit more (like 4 beers HAHA) but now I dont see the point or want to waste my money on it. Ill also only drink if Im with others.

2006: Went to Moab, partied all night, woke up drunk, and won the Nats.

Haven't been like that since.

Still have a few here and there, but nothing to the point of getting lit like I was then.

Same here. I quit shortly after my son was born. I don't know if I could live with myself if he got hurt or needed help and daddy was too drunk to be there for him.

However, if either one of us is out of town, I might indulge a little bit. Hangovers still suck though so I keep it to a minimum. :ror:

September 12 this year i will reach my 10th year of being sober"thumbsup", i have not touched a drop since, my wife and kids came after i had stopped drinking and i thank god for it, i was an obnoxious and violent drunk

constantmotion 06-10-2010 10:57 AM

Yeah, I'll drink 2 or 3 occasionally. It's very rare that I'll drink more than that in one day. I have only been out to a bar once to drink. Screw that, too smokey and way too expensive. I much rather sit at home and drink. I consider myself more of a social drinker.

dezfan 06-10-2010 11:02 AM

I don't drink..........anymore.

I won't lie, I miss it sometimes.

foproy 06-10-2010 11:14 AM

drinking in moderation never hurt anyone. on the other hand, some people cant do moderation. (as evidenced by some of the builds on this forum)XD

Unfortunately my heavy drinking days were when I was 14-15!! Passing out drunk, waking up in the front lawn a few times:ror: That is what happens when you are a freshman playing varsity and hanging out with seniors.

I happend to be sick one weekend and missed a party with everyone. Came to school Monday morning and was threatened with suspension and not being able to play sports in the district any longer if I didn't come clean. I had no idea what they were talking about. Come to find out, one of my friends took his mom's keys, went to a local lake and stole the districts boat. They almost capsized it and another friend that was a certified lifeguard, was so drunk he forgot how to swim and almost drowned!! The principle just assumed I was there because I usually was:twisted:

All of them were kicked out of any sports programs and luckily was able to continue going to school and graduate. Since then, drinking stopped being appealing to me. I will have a couple every now and again, but honestly really do not like the taste of alcohol any more. "thumbsup" I will admit, I had a few of the Mikes hard limeade the other day, like drinkin a key lime pie. MMMM:mrgreen:

Thanks for listening to my after school special:lmao:

I've never been a big drinker. I rarely drink, but at the AWCC it's almost guaranteed that I'll be sipping a little.

awesome stories guys keep em rolling in.

the one thing i have to say that sucks about being sober, is the jokes aren't as funny and if you are a true friend... your always the last one home ;-)

Indeed. It's interesting but sometimes less fun being the disciplined one...I usually find good entertainment the next day though, heckling those who are hungover, listening to them try to explain that they weren't "that drunk" even though they can't recall much of the evening.
But this is after much drinking in my teenage years: I learned the hard way (but not as hard as some: never was arrested nor crashed my vehicle).

Well done with your 12 years, bro. Definitely something to be proud of.
