It sounds like youve never had an experience where your told "no". When you try to take away the "freedoms" your reffering to. And he tells you hes going to do it anyway?

If youve never encountered that than that just means your child didnt need to be smacked to understand what wrong is. Thats a good thing.

Good genes
He's not perfect, but he's a good kid. I often ask my wife who his real father is.

Kids will be defiant and push boundries, thats part of growing up and learning the world. Adults do it too, only without the screeching voices, and the stomping of feet. I see no reason to smack a kid for something that comes natural to them.

There is no "trying" to take away his freedoms. I either do or don't. Its not hard to block his access to the Playstation, computer, bicycle, tv, or toys. Once he's calmed down I take the time to talk to him about the situation, or anything else he wants to discuss. In the beginning it was a little difficult, but now not so much. He understands he did something wrong and has to pay for it, which he does. He's not happy about it, but thats the point.

I'm not really sure. Its always been something we've done, saving the spankings for the really bad stuff, but we haven't had to do that in a couple years now.

I see it as mostly the parents fault. I'm 16, in a rural community, but I still have respect for people. That's how I was taught.
