So I got up and got to it. The trans was a piece of cake to pull--didn't even need a jack it was so light.

So I completely disassembled the trans. I "kinda" found what I was expecting but it was not the root cause of the noise.

I did find a bearing issue in the counter shaft with the counter shaft pin and some of the needle bearings. The side plates(brass) also had allot of metal imbeded in them.

The counter gear must be allot harder material than the pin because there was not a single amount of galling to the bearing surface and you could still see the shiny hone marks from manufacturing.

Here is where the noise was coming from. The first gear was clunking away.

The gear that first rides against on the counter shaft only had a couple small nicks on it but no bad galling of teeth missing. First was either just simply broke or something having to do with being too soft. I don't know.

Set aside till we can figure out what to do.

My other task was to see if I could get the fuel sending unit out.

It is a little rusty around the lock collar for the unit.

Again I am draining the tank, lol. I am very happy its there..

And it actually came out very easy and the tank and lock collar actually are in great shape. There are also no big chunks floating in the tank.

On monday my dad went in for another Ct scan.

The news was not as good as we were hoping but not too bad. The tumor has grown a little bit so he is having to start chemo today.

Some updates.

First with my dad.

The scan showed 1cm of growth in the tumor in the last 2 months since he has been off chemo. He said its still way smaller than before he started chemo so things are doing ok.

Last weds he started chemo again. This time its a different mixture due to the numbness the last round of mixture caused. After 7 rounds he will have another scan to see whats happening. He's still very positive..

As for the car. We are hoping the rear bumper shows this week.

He ordered a new radiator and horns.

I looked at the cost of fixing the trans vs. locating a used one. The cost of fixing the trans was about $100 more than finding another used unit. So we chose to just fix this one so we know what shape it will be in and not have get another pile thats worn out like the one that was in it. Those parts should be here this week too.

The 20th they are supposed to start putting up the new building that the car will sit in so it will be fully protected from the elements.

Thanks for the support

Update time.......

My dad is doing really good. His #1 thing is photography and he's the main guy for our county fair. They are having a deal going on this sunday and is feeling great and looking forward to it.

I have a bunch more parts.

The new rear bumper. The lic. plate lamp now makes sense..

Its ready to go on but I hopped over to other items first.

My dad found new horns for it--not those universal types but direct replacements. They fit perfectly.

I got the new fuel sender. I didn't realize it but the float was full of fuel on the old one. I have not seen that in years.

Thats all installed

My dad also got a new radiator--this one is a 3 core and should do the job nicely. I did a test fit and its going to be perfect.

And yes--I will have to paint these also, lol.

So tommorow night I will try to get that all done.

I have all the trans parts except the 1st/rev gear so its getting closer.

Well this looks better don't ya think, lol.

Got the new rad installed. Its definitely bigger but the fitment (once I got what holes to use) was very nice..

Had to make a new drain tube out of some 1/4" tube.

Got the rebuild kit for the tranny

The 1st/reverse gear was shipped on weds so it should be here soon. In the mean time I am going to get done what I can on the tranny. I am also going to get the area above the tranny undercoated. Its getting closer.

Hopefully this round of Chemo gets it. It sounded like it slowed it down pretty decent the 1st time around huh? Hopefully that weakened it so this time will knock it out. Good luck!

So I got the new horns in and guess what--ya no worky.

So I pulled the horn button off and No voltage at the contact. hmmm. I am going crazy I think because I know I did before. So turned the steering wheel and I have voltage at one little spot. So I pulled the steering wheel and the horns work with manually crossing contacts.I looked over the old/warped steering wheel and pulled the contact plates.

Well the fix was pretty simple--I just had to shim the contact plates a tad, reinstall and works like a champ. I am sure my dad will order a new steering wheel after driving it for a while.
