Default Powershell - Why?

My latest class has us knee deep into Powershell. More or less I look at it as the DOS prompt on crack. But, I am really struggling to see the real utility behind it. The lectures and reading material keep saying how great it is, and how you can run scripts to get information, make changes, or update information a lot quicker than going through a GUI. But, so far, I am not convinced. It seems like the instructors kind of stumble over what they are trying to do, and most of the lectures are them trying to remember what object to call, or the correct syntax to properly execute their script. In the time they wasted trying to figure out the proper formatting they could have just gone to the GUI and done what they wanted to do.

So, am I missing something fundamental here?

What are some good video series for learning Powershell?

Microsoft has some really good trainings and videos. Powershell is an extremely powerful tool and there lots of things that can only be done in powershell, the GUI doesn’t have them

It sounds like the instructor is not helping the situation. They sound rather unprepared to instruct.

I have been working with powershell at work to perform remote windows updates, uninstalls, etc., on workstations that are almost always in use during business hours. To me, it's a much more versatile and expanded version of the traditional command prompt.
