Default 1:1 Hi-lift jacks

Looking to get my brother a hi-lift jack for christmas, but wanted some input.

Genuine "Hi-lift" brand, Tractor Supply, or Harbor Freight? Does it matter?

48in or 60in?

It's gonna mount vertically on the swing out carrier of a wrangler (it has a built in mount). It's got ~5in lift and 33s now... he MIGHT get 35s with a fender kit, but won't be lifting it anymore. 5ft tall from that mount seems like it'd be way over the roof, but I don't know if there's a need for the longer jack or not.

48" real Hi-Lift.

The HF and TS ones are cheesy compared to the real thing.

The 48" one is plenty big enough. The 60" model would be really ugly to have to haul around.

Get the original and dont mount it on the outside of the vehicle. If it's only for looks, then that's fine, but if he wishes to be able to use it at some point in time, storing it outside will cause it to rust and the engagement pins wont function properly.

BTW, is that Cline Ranch near San Antonio??

Regular maintenance and grease will make it last fine outside.

also, the high lift is very dangerous...use it safely.

Thanks guys... sounds like I'll be hitting up some of the local 4x4 shops. Price wise the hi-lift brand really isn't much more.
It'll be stored outside (of the jeep), but the jeep sits in the garage most of the time because he has company cars. I have more miles on my bicycle than he does on his jeep this year.

That pic is at BVORR up in College Station. Only been to Spring Creek, Barnwell Mountain, BVORR, and most recently Hidden Falls. Looking into Katemcy Rocks, but he wants some more skid plates and some rock sliders first, as it looks a little rough there.

Although, the harbor freight one would match the orange on the mile marker winch

In my experience, that is wrong...

Katemcy is fun....yep, he'll need some skids.

Also, if it's stored on the outside of the Jeep, and is garage kept, make sure it will fit in the garage.. That would suck to pull it in and hit the threshold of the garage door..

Also, swap that pin that holds the handle on for something that is more "quick release". I used the hi-lift handle on mine 100x more than the jack itself. It makes a GREAT cheater bar.

I'll double your money ;)

Thanks all. I swung by the local 4wheelparts and picked up a 48in all cast jack. It was on sale for $66, which is the price of the lower level one with stamped steel foot and a couple other differences. Now I just need to wrap it and stash it under the Xmas tree

I'm pretty sure 48 won't stick above the roof of the jeep... if it does, it shouldn't be by much. Maybe I'll sneak down and throw it on while he's at work.
