My buddy Dave has an XJ on 3.5" lift with 35's... but he doesn't have fenders anymore. You are REALLY limited with tire size due to the fender design. You are going to have to do at least some metal trimming if you are even thinking 35's... 33's will fit but with a minimum of 5" of lift. This is how you fit 35's with 3.5" of lift. | |

That looks closer to a 33" tire. (edit: in the pic you posted, LR3.) IIRC, you would need 5" to run a 33x12.50 tire without cutting the fenders. Depends on the wheels. I'd stick with a 33. The tires are cheaper, generally, and you won't be breaking axles as often. Save the money you would spend on some crazy lift for axle upgrades, lockers, etc... Find one with the 4.0L I6 and avoid the full-time t-case. Also, look for one with a Dana44 rear end. |

Just sold my xj last week 7.5 Rubicon Long arm lift on 35's 35's are pushing the limits of the stock axles, I wouldn't even consider 37's Oh, those are bushwhacker flat flares and cutting is required. Last edited by klabeaume; 12-16-2010 at 06:48 PM. |

I know a few guys running the slight lift/33s/trimming/locked setup. Works great. 2JSC, you recognise this? |

Box Canyon out near FJ. Not really a trail, per se. We did find some snowbirds in a Liberty stuck in there. |

Do not go with bushwhackers, I thought they were cool at your age too, now I'm sick of them and constantly rip them off. Plus I have to deal with nasty wallowed out holes in my doors and body panels when I get rid of them. BTW, I run 33's on 4.5" with the flares and no bumpstops. 97-99 is the "ideal year" for an XJ IMO, unless you can find an old one with the D44 rear. Another suggestion if you end up lifting an XJ, go long arm the first time....Another one of those "wish I had" things.
