Default 1:1 Rig Advice

here soon I am going to start looking into getting a real car. Is a 1989-1996 Jeep Charokee With 4.5 inches of lift and 33s good? How well will it perform off and on road? Also, what would be a reasonable price for a Charokee?

what kind of engine does it have? you also want to see the condition of it because it'll save you money if you can find out if there is anything wrong with it, also if they say it's a "minor thing" watch out because it can be minor but it can also become a huge issue later down the road if you don't take care of it.
My preference would be to get like a in-line six engine cuz those engines seem to last forever! my moms cherokee had 278k miles and was still going strong.

No offense but if you don't know the things your asking, don't get one. There are many things to look at with Cherokees.....having a lift of that size..even more. Do some research on Jeep forums and see what ya find before you go out and buy.

my friend has a 2001 cherokee with a 3in lift and 31's, and a 5spd. and he loves it, not sure what he paid but its got close to 100k on it and no problems with it (inline 6cyl)

but honestly if i where you id look in to a tacoma, my other friend just ordered a 3in lift for his and i think they are pretty sweet little trucks even though i am a chevy guy, that being said id also look in to a chevy reg cab. half ton, throw a 3-4in kit and some 33s on it and you'll be surprised what you can do................or 37s then you can go just about any where you'd like!

'91-'01 XJ's are great.

as far as issues... they all seem to have something different with them. The most common is the cracked exhaust manifold, but it's easily replaced in 5-6hrs work. Another is the rear main seal on the block, again, easily replaced. The only downside to them is they tend to sqweek a lot if they've seen any good ammount of offroading. Unibody vehicles tend to do that. AS far as stability, lifted or not they are solid. The longer wheelbase (longer than a TJ) really helps on the roads. You'll need more than 4" of lift for 33's unless you plan on cutting the fenders up.

Thanks guys. I just love the look of a lifted XJ. They are very nice cars, and from what I have seen on the Tube, pretty damn good off road after very little work

Jeeps are tanks. Especially the XJ's. Get the 4.0. They are bombproof. Mine has 210000+ and going strong. The trannys are tough, the transfercases are good, and best thing is there are so many of them that when stuff does go wrong there are an over abundance of parts at the junk yard. I have owned 5 XJ's, 1 KJ, and 2 WJ's. I currently own one stock XJ and one slightly modified WJ.
