Going Diesel.

I've been flying R/C for several years, done Nitro, gas, Electrics and one of my buddied picked up a new milling machine the other day and he needed a project..... Flash forward to today. He was looking at some some magazine and saw an article about Nitro/diesel conversions and it was all over from there. He built his first head for and Evolution .45 trainer motor and we did a running test, so far power seems normal, run times are about 30-50% longer and it rolls blackish smoke"thumbsup" and fuel is about $5 a gallon after blending and such... I picked up a SloPoke .40 at a silent auction for $5 a few weeks back and had a nearly new .46 Evolution 2 stroke. A perfect candidate. Next on the list a Traxxas 3.3"thumbsup"

No glow plugs, It uses an adjustable piston in the combustion chamber to increase or decrease combustion ratio. It takes a lot of Juice to start these compared to the Nitro versions, it has a lot higher compression and since the lack of glow plug you rely solely on compression and heat for ignition, but once it starts it a bear to get it to die without cutting fuel or air.
No flameouts"thumbsup"

Looking to replace the Hex screw in the head with something more like this

A thumb screw would be easiest to use, but a big fat grub screw would look cleaner.

Pretty bad ass part though.

A real man would have a pull start...

Ahh the versatility of diesel. Great work!

Pretty cool idea, a 2 stroke diesel in the air! Why eliminate the glo plug, that's how diesels start, the plugs just turn off after the engine gets running at normal operating temp. I'd bet that it would run on veggie oil. "thumbsup"
