| nitro/diesel idea
Ok so we all have those ideas that come to us in the middle of our sleep. I was thinking about glow plugs, and thought, can rc nitro engines run on diesel fuel? Diesel engines and rc engines run on glow plugs, so I wonder if its do-able. Has this been done before? If so did it work? Thanks for helping me sort out my dreams. hahaha. |

Yes, it can be done and has been done for several years now. Here's a company that does the conversion. There are some videos on the site.

I used to race a rc10gt with a "dieseled" OS 12 conversion from Davis Diesel. Coolest running small block I ever raced.

Man that sounds cool. I might dig out my old duratrax mt and see what it takes. Is there a place that shows you how or sells the kits? |

so another spark idea, if you were to build a crawler "nitro" wouldn't it idle lower and give you more low end torque in a crawling situation to convert it over to diesel.....just like the difference in the 1:1 world....just sayin... |

Might have to put the crawlers on the back burner for a while, I'd love to Diesel my Revo, fuel is MUCH cheaper. I assume I could use regular diesel from a pump, it doesn't say anything about it but they offer their own brand of diesel @ $25/gallon. Didn't sound much different either. Pretty cool |

Id say you want to pass that fuel threw a filter before it goes in you truck, and dont get soy bean diesel its way dirtier than regular. Good luck, post a build of it.

There's a great post on scale4x4rc.org about this in the 'RC's for the air' section.

I remember seeing this, just couldn't remember who did it. So there really won't be much savings in fuel over a nitro by the time you buy all the chemicals, but does the fuel last longer when stored? I know my nitro has a pretty short shelf life.
