Australian shepherds are some of the smartest dogs I've ever trained and owned. These dogs are smarter than most owners in MANY MANY cases.

They generally make excellent search & rescue dogs & farm pets because they have SO MUCH ENERGY, they're generally mellow unlike a lab but can work right along with a lab and some will out work labs quite easily.

Some shepherds have a history of not following commands well and usually it's because they were bread to act on their own protecting livestock.

Now I want another, damn you. Especially for the beer, however I'll be wanting a kegerator soon so that could get interesting.....

Mine goes to work when I go, sometimes he can't wait to get out of the truck. He saw the job and was ready.
