The XD is striker fired, there is no hammer. If you're used to having a hammer it can take a while to get used to. What you describe doing with the 1911 is an extremely huge no-no unless of course it's unloaded then I can see your point.

You will love it. I've owned two XDs my current is an XDM two-tone 9mm it's the sweetest shooting pistol I've ever shot. For the size of the grip I cannot fathom how they managed to get a 19rd flush fitting magazine but they did.

It was military field training that taught me how to hold the 1911 and to reach up with my thumb and cock the weapon. Once a target was cleared, I would hold on to the hammer w/ the right thumb, squeeze the trigger and gently let the hammer fall back.

I haven't owned a pistol in about 15 years so I'm really looking forward to getting this and spending some time at the range.

This is my newest toy. I have had it for a while and have no shot it yet, but maybe now that the weather has cooled off.

I also picked this up for a $100. Have not shot it either, but was thinking about changing it over to a more tactical style gun.

I had thought to get her another Mellinium but in .380 but as I have never fired one, not sure how much less the kick is. I also thought of a S&W 22A. The 22A should be a good snake gun. The other option is a small .38.

Any suggestions?
i've got the millenium pro 9mm, it's pretty tame compared to most of similar caliber i think. i don't think a few gr less powder in the .380 is going to make much difference. sounds like she just needs to shoot it more, but if not a bigger/heavier gun will kick less or one of similar size but smaller caliber will give the same effect.

I can't say much on how it shoots I only put 25 rounds through it so far. I haven't had any issues while shooting. I have noticed it fail to completely eject a round when the clip is ejected and the slide is pulled back to remove the live round from the chamber. It's happened to me a few times. I figured it was just my error not pulling the slide hard enough. Guess I have some reading to do now. Kinda hope it isn't a reacuring problem while shooting. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh and so far shooting experience has been very good!
Same problems, I also have a double feeding problem , right out the box did 180 round with numerous double feeds, went home cleaned an lubed( more like dipped) went through another 80 rounds and had one double feed and one round not ejecting have to call Springfield tomorrow or Monday

It has been 110+ all summer. I got an offer from a buddy who has a couple hundred acre's where he keeps his airplane to go out there and shoot it. An airplane ride was offered also, I am not sure which I am more excited about., I have not been in a private plane since I let my medical expire. Might be enough to make me want to fly again, and lord knows I cannot afford that at this point in my life. But if I go with him, he will not even take a few $ for gas money, so it will work out my cheap, broke ass.

2 Rugers I duracoated. The full size is the P345 duracoated in 2 tone, the pocket pistol is my edc and it's the LCP in a single color. I've got a lot more guns I'll post later, my 1911 is stripped waiting on me to install a bunch of Wilson Combat goodies.

Glock is a love/hate thing. The grip angle is weird and I couldn't get used to it. The trigger usually sucks too.. I owned a G17 for a while and while I liked the gun itself well enough.. Hell, it's record stands for itself.. It's just those things I mentioned I couldn't shoot it worth beans and sold it.

The XDM trigger is very nice right out of the box. Just such a sweet shooting pistol.. The grip angle closely resembles the 1911 angle which is darn near perfect.

For the Glock I'd at least shoot one before you buy it.. If you can rent one or maybe you know someone that has one you can try.

I have to agree, when I was renting guns to determine which one I was going to buy, the XDm fit my hand better than anything else, I could dump a few magazines through it without making my hands go numb. The buddy that I got it from is a Baltimore County cop, he tells me that Baltimore County went through some trails to determine which gun they wanted for the police force, the XDm beat everything else hands down. The problem came from Springfield Armory, they simply couldn't fill a 1500 gun order within the necessary time frame.
