So I shot exactly 100rds through it this morning and am pretty pleased with how everything went. Started off with 20rds WWB 5.56, then 20rds AE .223 and then 60rds of Tula .223, all 55gr. On the first 10 rounds of Tula I had a failure to feed on the 7th round. Cleared it, shot the last three rounds and set that mag to the side. Continued on with the other two mags and had no more issues with the rest of the Tula. Considering what I've heard about the .223 Tula ammo I'm pretty happy with the way the gun ran.

The optic was way off out of the box, about 2ft high and a foot to the right at 25yds. That aside I experienced ZERO issues regarding anything during the session from the optic. I had it on the 4th brightness setting (out of 10) in bright sunlight and it showed up just fine. No issues with the dot not functioning, it held zero just fine, and stayed firmly planted on the gun.

All in all I'm very happy with the set up. I only spent two hours out there so I think some more work on my part and possibly some minor adjusting is needed. This was only my second time shooting an AR. I could've stayed out another couple of hours easy (still had 140rds) but my buddy had things to do.

Best plate of the day at 50yds...

Nice, it ought to shoot quite a bit better once it breaks in.

Are you jealous because you can't shoot without a rear sight?

I got an M&P Shield 9mm to go along with my M&P Pro 9mm. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet, but I did put Talon grips on it. The Shield is going to replace my Glock 43 that I don't like. I may or may not keep the G43. Two friends are in line to buy it.

My Shield 9mm is the top choice for my EDC, thin, not too heavy, comfortable to carry and not a bad experience to shoot, minimal recoil. I think you made a great choice.

So now that I have my weekends back with the new job, I've been slowly rounding up more hiking gear. Planning to do quite a bit of that this year. I needed a smaller field / bushcraft knife. I ordered an Esee 4 first, and did not care for it. Scales were too thin for my hands, and the cheapo molded sheaths they've went to I do not care for either. So I sent that back (unused) and got an Esee Laser Strike. I really like it so far, with it and the Junglas I've got everything covered knife wise I think.

Use the washer included attached to the sheath to remove the scales, and there's a ferro rod and some tinder inside. I carry my own, but nice to have just in case.

Comparison shot next to the Junglas. The Laser Strike is a 5" blade BTW.

I have never handled it, but i an getting hot on that kydex stuff.

I am contemplating getting me some and do my own sheaths for a couple of knives, that be the knives i will be carrying in that shoulder holster carrying system i am also brainstorming.

I cant really figure out if i should DIY the whole damn thing or just get something ( gun ) and make it work for me and my needs.

I am more leaning towards a wire saw for the heavy work, not least since its also more stealthy than a lot of chopping that can be heard for miles ( crucial in a micro country like mine )

This little fat thing ( 7 mm ) fell into my lap a little while ago, it do feel a little weird to work with but then again i have only tried it out for a few seconds on walks with the little RC trucks.
I am sure it will do fine and it do feel and look sturdy so it can handle some abuse.

I was looking around for an affordable center fire rifle for plinking and some light hunting with my son, and this followed me home. Savage Axis XP in .223 flavor, a package deal so it came with a Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 scope already bore sighted from the factory. I know.. I know, it's an entry level beginner grade type of rifle, but I expect it will serve it's purpose well. Plan to go to the range later this week, will report back.....

Nothing wrong with Savage. They make good barrels! Tested a new prototype last weekend on my Model 11.

Mine's a .308 win. I plan on getting a deer or two with it, this year. Probably not with the silencer since I don't have my own tax stamp, yet but, after using it for a day, I REALLY NEED one! The reduced noise is nice but, the reduced recoil (designed in!) is vastly more useful!

The only pic I have at the moment on my new phone...

My Aero 18" 223 Wylde build and my ADM 16" build for my... 2 year old daughter. My Aero normally carries a 4-14 FFP Scope, but I'm switching to a 2.5-10 FFP.

I took my new Axis 223 for a first test run at the range yesterday, the only issue was the scope can't be adjusted any further back, so the eye relief isn't correct and I had to stretch my neck forward to see properly. The targets are marked as 25 yards which is incorrect, I was at the 50 yard line. I was using the least expensive ammo American Eagle 55 gr FMJ. I think I did OK for the first time. The scope was bore sighted at the factory, so I had to do a little adjusting on the scope to sight it in.

First target getting it sighted in.. five shots.

On #1 I still had to do a little adjusting on the scope.. five shots and on # 2 was my first five shot group at 50 yards.

With a little more trigger time I think I can do better.. next time I'll try 100 yards, I like this rifle, it's a good shooter.

I gave my Savage axis 223 a DIY camo paint job, didn't turn out too ugly, even got a few compliments at the range.
