Have you looked at the H&K USPs? My personal favorite semi-auto round is the .40S&W or the .45ACP. For a home defense handgun, have you considered a 4" barrel .357Mag. Loaded with Federal Hi-shock rounds, it's still one of the best all time single-shot stopping calibers out there. It's a managable size, but still accurate under stress. Pull the trigger, nothing happens? Pull it again. You can shoot .38Special rounds through it as well to lower the kick. I switched from a 9mm semi-auto to a Ruger SP101 2 1/2" barrel .357Mag. I fired .38special rounds until I could consistantly hit the targets, then migrated to the big boys. Now I only fire .357s through it. I've owned it for years and now keep it unloaded and in a safe box since I have children. I have to agree with everyone else though, a 20ga pump shotgun is still the best home defense firearm. Just the sound of a shotgun being pumped is often enough to make a perp decide to move on to the next house. IMHO, The best thing for home defense though is a Doberman Pinscher! |
