@ Grizzly.

A system to prevent turbo lag.

When you take your foot of the gas the turbo spools down. You don't want that.
So the system delays the timing and keeps adding fuel/air to create an explosion on the exhaust side to keep the turbo going.

Love the T5 too.

I met this guy right before I moved from Phoenix. Seeing this car on the street, hell, even with the hood open, you wouldn't think much of it.

I was wondering that too.......what kind of effect does that have on the engine?

It dramatically decreases the lifespan of your engine.
The heat (in the turbo) goes way up and it adds a lot of pressure to the exhaust side of the engine.
And because the engine is still sort of running it almost eliminates the normal brake effect you would get from it.

Ah!! Cool. I wondered why street legal cars backfired so much.

You got it.

And they're cheap too. If the opportunity ever arises to have a car for a toy again, it'll be a Volvo.

Wonder if putting the throttle body before the turbo would make a difference over any forced backfires.

That would be terrible. You'd never get any usable power out of the turbo.

It'd be like putting your hand over your mouth/nose and keeping it there until you felt dizzy.

That Mitsu Evo X didn't sound so good...no wonder it wasn't in the video after that.

I raced with a guy that had a 240 and he swapped in a 350 Chevy motor. Goofy dude, goofy car, ran terrible and drove even worse. But he was having fun!

Tell that to various F1 crews who ran cars setup like that in the 80's. How does having the TB in front of the compressor choke the motor? It still opens and closes!

Here is a short discussion about it: Throttle body before the turbo on F1 turbo engines - Forum - F1technical.net

That was awesome. I will never get over the sound of straight cut gears. Info about the car?
