Mythbusters cannon missfire

TV Stunt Goes Awry, Sends Cannonball Rocketing Through Homes « CBS Los Angeles

cannon misfire clears hill in the fire range they use, through a house, and ends up in a van.

Crazy!

Insane! I'm sure there will be lawsuits - good thing they carry lots of insurance.

Love that show, one of the few shows left that I watch anymore.

BJoe 12-07-2011 11:00 AM

Well, doesn't Adam Savage say " Failure is always an option"? I guess that is one hell of a fail!

BigSki 12-07-2011 02:39 PM

They better get Kari to give out some lap dances to make the hard feelings to go away! :lmao:

I'm just wondering how shooting a cannon ball into a pool ended up like this? Out of all the crazy chit they have done though one mess up is pretty good IMO!:ror:

STANG KILLA SS 12-07-2011 03:23 PM

was just about to post this.
hope it doesnt hurt the show. ie insurace company limits them even more what they can do. i know they already fight that.

BigSki 12-07-2011 07:50 PM

I wonder if the insurance company will make Jamie stop saying "Jamie wants big boom!'. I know that this is a really serious matter and it could have had a very sad ending, thank goodness it was all property damage and not a causality, but could you just imagine if you were the owner of the mini van and you went outside to see what the fawk was going on, and you find a cannon ball inside of what's left of your vehicle and it has 'Mythbusters' spray painted across it?

slobin3d 12-07-2011 08:09 PM

If you ever watched the aftershows, they have already had issues. Although not like this. They set of an explosion so big that they were banned from one of the gravel pits they commonly use, because the shockwave carried way further then they predicted and broke windows and caused damage to several houses beyond the pit.

Wow, that reporter guy is kind of a douche.

viper6171 12-07-2011 11:54 PM

wow is right and duuuuuuuude you are right the reporter is kind of a douche

ohh EPiC FAiL 12-08-2011 12:18 AM

the reporter must not like the show, he just has this tone that suggests he wants them to be punished. it's not like they don't take safety precautions, they do a lot to ensure safety but unfortunately things like this can still happen. luckily everyone is okay and hopefully this doesn't affect the show, it's still one of my favorites.

imperium 12-08-2011 12:46 AM

I'm quite surprised something like this didn't happen sooner . Still funny

Talking Head: "They're sleeping with very little confidence tonight"

Give me a fuking break, two of the people who suffered property damage laughed about it. Granted the person whose house it went through was not available for comment, but I bet they all are sleeping with thoughts of what they were going to do with the settlement $$$.

jetboat 12-08-2011 10:16 AM

they have in their favor that it was on a Police bomb range being supervised by Police personelle. It doesnt take away the liabilty of paying for damage but, it should show that every precaution was taken.

Now, I can see them having to move thier testing of ballistic related myths to a facility farther from the public.

Any idea what that cannon ball will go for on Ebay???

Instead the cannonball flew over the foothills surrounding Camp Parks Military Firing Reservation, before spiraling back toward Dublin like a cruise missile. It flew straight through the front door of a home on Cassata Place, and bounced around like a pinball, flying up to the second floor before blasting through a back bedroom wall. The wayward cannonball then blasted across a busy road and through a second home some 50 yards away, demolishing roof tiles. The homeowner’s mother was frightened.“It was a very loud boom; she thought a tree fell, maybe a meteor,” said Ming Jiang. “It wasn’t clear that it was a cannonball landing on the roof.”
What baffles me is how it pinballed around house #1 before proceeding through #2 and finally into the minivan. Kind makes me wonder if house #1 was half bomb shelter or something:ror:
