Posting pictures tomorrow! Alright as most builds go, you start out with pencil and paper. Some calculations... Starting on the frame. Drillin some screw holes. First frame done. Repeat everything...and you get another base. We made legs and labled these "Leg A" and another set was "Leg B" Connected the bases with the legs "A, B" More to come just got some things done. reminds me of how I built mine. Did you glue the 2x's together or just screws? What size of tank are you going with? |

I would highly suggest using a water resistant glue such as epoxy or at least gorilla glue. With the amount of weight that you will have, you dont want to take a chance on a couple screws coming loose and causing a failure dumping 60 gallons of water on your floor. 60g of water = 480# + 50-75# of rock + 10-15# of hood/lights Just to put in perspective what you are going to be supporting. The build definatly looks like a great start. |

Well the boss rolled in and made us get to work. Started making the bottom "shelf" where all the fish stuff will be. And result... Made some final adjustments. And boom it fits. Next we got an overall view of how it will look with the doors. Then we got out the ol' staple gun... ...and stapled the bottom "shelf" on. Next we got the front panel... ...fitted it on and stapled. Now for side panels. fitted on... Figured Id drop the camera and give it a try....stapled the sides. Success!!! Looking good!! |

Took a break and the boss's secretary popped in, and said we need to get it done, stat! Doing some inspecting. So we got back to work... ...got a thick sheet of plywood and used it for the top. Double plywood top. Looking great! Then we got to the wood filler...yes the picture is upside down. filling in some cracks before final sanding. Now some corner pieces. Some nice staining really brings it to life... Alright thats where we stopped for the night. Hope you guys are enjoying the build as much as we are. Thanks! |
