Default KMC Rock Star Wheels, anybody have any experience with them?

I'm looking at buying a set of 18'' KMC Rock Star wheels, Matte Black. Before I spend $800 on a set I'm looking if anybody's had any experience with them. These will be put on a 99' SAS Tacoma Ext cab 4 cyl 5 spd with a 6'' lift on either 33'' or 35'' tires. Thanks.

I have a set of them in 22x12 on my F-350 that I bought in 2006. The little chrome screws around the perimeter are cheap plastic. The hex head bolts holding the hub caps on are a cheap grade that round out easily after getting stuck in the wheel, but isnt an issue if you put antiseize on them at install.

I had a wheel right off that bled air down slow but steady. I tried everything to fix it short of fix a flat. It ended up being porosity in casting, leaking through one pin hole. I had been soaping beads and valve stems. Hasn't leaked a drop since. Little annoying for a $330 dollar wheel.

They're rugged wheels otherwise. I bounced one off a concrete culvert and it ground off a good section off of the inner lip but didnt bend the wheel at all. The hub area on mine is pretty beefy.

The black finish has held up very well.

So with all that being said, the pro's and con's, would you recommend them to somebody?

Thanks

I would. I'd buy them local to make any warranty issues easier. Don't forget the antiseize.

Rockstars are played out. That fad ended about 2-3 years ago. Have you seen any of the stuff from BMF?

If your just going to the mall parking lot then they are a perfect fit. If you plan on going off-road then I'd be looking at something a lot better than those. This is just my opinion of course.

I agree with NorCal 2500HD, it seems like the wheel of choice for every diesel truck in East Texas.

These wheels were on every diesel truck in Texas even 5 years ago. I bought them because I hadn't come across one other truck in New England with them. I also don't do any wheeling. You still hardly see them up here.

just do some searching, look at the page in truck mags that is full of wheels.....

Do something different..itll make your truck stand out more.

I just really like the wheels, and No I don't plan on doing any offroading. This is my DD from School to work, to home. Thats about it.

You don't plan on doing any offroading but you invested the time and money into putting a solid axle on your truck and a 6" lift? That doesn't make very much sense....

I'd say Thornbirds. Those potholes at the mall must be fawking killer if you need to swap in a solid axle.

One thing I liked about the rockstars back then and even now is they're simple and blocky. Everything I see nowadays is real busy, like all these BMF wheels.

I know hardcore off roaders dont think much of the mall crawler trucks, but surely you can appreciate someones interest to modify their rig, no matter what they do to it.

Absolutely, he can do whatever he wants, if he likes it then ok. But if you're going to swap in a solid axle, which is stronger than an IFS offroad, but aren't going offroad, then what's the point? Obviously you don't swap that in for a ride quality improvement lol.

No, I see your point. Some people just get a thrill from modifying, even if it's a negative result.

I already have a 1:1 rig. 1 tons, LS1, 42's, ect. I have no need to wheel this rig. I just want something nice to drive. Something that looks good and is functional, that I can use on the farm and when I go scaling. I'm not going to be wheelin in this truck, I have no point to wheel this truck.
