Who Here Doesnt Have A Facebook Page?
 

In lite of the recent smartphone thread as well as the evening news tonight I thought Id start this up.

So the local news tonight told that Virginia State Trooper applicants were being asked to submit Facebook pages during the interview process.

POLICE: Our agency will suspend background checks of Facebook | WTVR.com

Although the link isnt as subjective as the blipp I saw on the news, it does mention the state troopers policy. Futhermore, the topic is rasied about regular civillians going through the same bother during an interview and whether or not its legal.


Which leads me to the topic, Ive been thinking about getting rid of my FB page. I didnt even set mine up, my fiance did and I was against it from the start. Then people start telling me how great it is for networking (Im speaking work related not socially) so I let it go a while. In the few years I have had the account I rarely log in and dont do much when I do. I feel like its something thats definately not needed for me, and with technology and the govt advancing as they are I think the whole idea is assinine.

However, the more pertinent question here is what people think about it being a workplace requirement to submit a FB page in order to get a job? Is this not discriminatory?? Suppose I dont have a FB page?? How is this any different from not hiring based on race, religion, etc.???


Is anyone not seeing a pattern here; credit checks, background checks, drug tests, FB pages...........seems like the struggle for control IMHO.

Imo its getting a little too personal asking to see what your social life consist of. I try to keep work separate from family / friends anyway, so its none of hrd's business what I do outside work "thumbsup"

No Facebook , my space , my life , your life . the people I want to talk to and want to hear from have my phone number or I've subscribe to their threads on here

I have had my credit pulled for a job app too . Wtf

No Face book, no GPS on my phone and I only turn it on to make a call.

Question for everyone - Have you turned off your Google History yet, with their new privacy policy it's a good idea.

It's also a good idea to know and understand the privacy policies of any site you go onto. This stuff NEVER goes away.

I've got one, rarely use it though. I guess I just don't care enough about the daily meanderings of people that I hardly know.

I don't have a facebook account. I have a website. People can find me there. My wife has a facebook they can talk to her.

dont have one dont want one..we lose enough of our privacy as it is..its a tool or will be/is used as a tool for information gathering anyway

Screw face tube. My wife lives on hers and I see the drama that it can cause... It's for nosey busy bodies.

I held out as long as I could...but, when living overseas, or at least having your wife and kid overseas, it is a good way to share your kid's pics with your family. That is how they got me. But, I never log on.

I have one for 2yr now. rarely goes on. I use fake name, location, DOB ... and no party picture. Only real friend know who I am.
