Who doesn't have a smart phone?

I've been thinking about ditching the smart phone lately. I'm getting tired of dealing with OS woes on my phone. Tired of dealing with a pocket brick. Tired of waiting for the text message app to open up or the email app to open up. At this point just text and phone is all I really want. A computer and ipod touch can handle everything else as far as I'm concerned.


Years from now we may not even have a choice about it. Want a phone without a camera? Tough cookies! God help our children who will probably feel like outcasts without a 4" screen phone by age 10.

I was like you, I wanted a phone and an ipod touch to take care of the rest. so I got an iphone, same as an ipod touch and now I dont have to cary 2 things all the time.

on a 3 year contract (dont bitch me out for being on a contract, I know I needed a phone for ATLEAST the next 3 years) I was able to get a iPhone 3GS 16gb (white of course) for less then a 8gb iPod touch.
this phone has been going strong for 2.5 years and I still love it. I have no desire to get a 4, or even 4s this one works fine.

my point is why ditch a smart phone to get the same features but using 2 devices instead? makes no sence.

I don't have one, my phone is for calls, my computer is for the internet, and my mobile hotspot is for the times I'm not home and need the internet.

I wouldn't carry the ipod around all the time. I still hate it when my music is interrupted by a phone call though, so I use two devices at home already. The only downside is that I would lose pandora in my car. Big bummer.

alright, I see what your getting at, I know a few people who are sick of it, constant emails and other stuff you just shouldnt be dealing with when your out and about.
I know 2 people who just use regular flip phones and don't even text.

There is actually a kid in my school, that is in 4th grade and has a iPhone! Its crazy, and I am in 10th grade and have a phone that you have to press one key a ton of times to just get to one letter. haha! But hey, it works.

I have a sorta basic LG phone to make calls and do some texts. A text can be used at times where call coverage is not enough.

I "could" do email on it, but won't pay for the plan.
I don't use text a lot since I prefer to save emails, not texts.

I'm in field service, either email me & I will get back to you later/when I can, or call me.
Period.

If need be, I can either find a WiFi spot to use my laptop, or use a Verizon aircard.

It sounds like something is wrong with your phone if those apps are taking more than a second to open. Have you tried resetting or reinstalling the OS on the device?

I haven't had my smart phone for very long, but I like it. However, I do limit the time and places where I use it. I think that there is a cell phone etiquette that too many people aren't following these days (not just smart phone users either). I think this helps to keep me from letting a phone run my life....

I don't have a smartphone, but I do have an iPod Touch. My phone is rarely used, maybe twice a week for a few minutes, maybe not even that, no texts. I love the Touch and how thin it is, and I use no case, and it's in my front pants pocket all day long. I love this thing. But anyways, here's my phone that I was forced to upgrade to when AT&T bought out Cingular and shut down their analog network. Pre flip phone, and it's pretty small.

I do everything from the phone. Pay bills, edit video, everything.

I don't have a computer any more. 48 dollars a month.

Internet for the computer alone was 45. Then cell phone bill, etc....

Smart phones can't run big programs. But that's about it. My credit card machine, printer, all from the cell phone.

Have a Sony W760 for over 2 years now. Doesn't have an OS like most other full blown smart phones.(dumb smart phone) Don't use internet, don't use e-mail on it, rarely text. The camera and video comes in handy as does the 16GB memory stick. The smart phones like droid and Iphone are cool but more than I want to spend, fragile and bulky. Don't think they would hold up to well in the shop. I like a smaller phone because a firearm, 2 knives, a flashlight, keys, change and etc takes up enough pocket and belt space. I still have 4 or so old phones with no camera in the drawer though.

I've got a not-quite-a-smart-phone phone. Touch screen, use it for phone calls and texts. For a couple extra $'s a month I get a weather app. I could do lots of other things on it but don't.

It'll actually pull up app's quicker than my buddies Iphone4.

Not having a smart phone would suck.

i do ....it is a samsung sync that is 4 years old and get this ? i only use it as a phone and very limited texting to my kids and it only costs me 50 bucks a month to have ....i don't need to tap talk when i'm not at home, i can wait till i get to my desk top and go online......bob

You can see what I sent this from at the bottom of the post. I'm rarely ever home, so this bad boy is a God send for me. I can't even imagine not having a smart phone now. Don't even have to go to the bank to deposit a check. When I am home I use this phones web for my iPad using the built in WiFi hotspot. Anytime my OS acts up, I just restart the phone and I'm good to go.
