| dogs and chocolate
hey, so my dog, a pure bred Irish Wolfhound puppy 43lbs, just ate about a 1/8 oz of milk chocolate. I know I should get her to vomit, did the hydrogen peroxide trick and she still hasnt thrown it up. did a little bit of googleling and found out activated charcoal is the great for soaking up the toxins but I dont have any. after some more time on Google, Ive found that there is a "guide" to what is lethal and she falls under just getting the runs. Im not freaking out yet but apparently the symptoms dont start for 12 hrs, which by then I will be at work. just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or knows anything that would be helpful! the lesson I have learnt here is, leave NOTHING on the counters EVER! thanks!

My little 37lb pit ate a few valentine chocolates once. The only side effect that I noticed was that she went batshit crazy-hyper. We had to literally hold her down- she wanted to bounce off of everything.

I've been making chocolate chip cookies for years (my favorite) and knew that dogs should not consume chocolate. My black lab would bug the hell out of me as soon as I started mixin' a batch up. When I would take them out of the oven, she would be spinnin' in circles. I would tell her they have to cool off first and she would sit and drowl, staring at the counter till I would share some with her. Milk in a bowl for her, a glass for me. She lived 14 years and never got ill or the chits from them. |

My moms Chihuahua ate an entire batch of chocolate chip cookies. Had to be at least 25 along with the 16 oz of chips. That dog bounced off the walls for about 20 hours, then crashed for 12. No harm, no foul. I would not worry about it.

Here is a good article about Chocolate Toxicity in Dogs. It gives a good explanation of the amount and types of chocolate that will cause problems and why it didn't make your dog sick. Chocolate Toxicity in Dogs |

well a full 12 hrs later and she is fine. wife was baking (chef by trade) and went downstairs to get whatever. well she left ALL her supplies on the counter... well my dog can get to the counter like it is nothing. just a stretch of her neck and she can snag my toast in the morning. moral of the story is, puppy aint alowed in the kitchen anymore.
