| Flying with Scalers (ATL>NC>IL>CO>ATL)
I have done it a few times, but it was several years ago, and the RC was MUCH smaller. I am flying from Atlanta to Wilmington,NC. I am then driving from Wilmington to Chicago. I will be spending 3 days in Chicago and then flying to Denver, CO for 5 days after Christmas to have some fun, than back to Atlanta. Since I can't pack my 1:1 in the suitcase, I am going to be packing my 1:10th. What's the policy on for RC's? There are lots of wires, boxes, and lipo's. Which could all be "suspected" for something that is not clothing, and the way the system works is if somebody wants something, they say it's not legal...take it...put it in the coffee room and enjoy a nice zippo lighter, or 40 year old vintage Swiss Army Knife your grandfather that recently passed away gave you. I've been through it all. I don't want to have a $1K+ investment/hobby disappear, because somebody thought a Novak Goat 3S Was a nuclear reactor in disguise. I plan on checking the entire thing. I will have the frame and tires removed laying flat on the top of the suitcase. The body will be on the side of the suitcase with the tires, remote, batteries, charger, and TX. Should I put a note in there? A proof of what it is? I don't want the guy that screens the checked baggage to open it and think it is something not permitted. What should I hand carry? I can fit the frame/electronics/axles (most expensive part) in my backpack and leave the rest in the luggage. Thoughts? I'm sure I'm over thinking this one...but I had to think A LOT to earn the money to build this Thanks (P.S) Any good crawling in downtown Chicago area? I'd also love to get out in the CO scene. I am staying at the BroadMoor in Colorado Springs. I plan on wheeling a little each day when I'm out there. |

I'd put all tools in your checked baggage I rarely make a flight like you're going to make. I usually stay in one place for a while, then head back home. I'd try to mail it if it wasn't too expensive. I've never done it so have no clue if it'd cost too much, but have thought about it |

You can actually pack everything in a carry on, no problems. I just flew from Chicago to Ft. Lauderdale w only a carry on: 2 rigs, lipo bag, charger and tools. I had all the tools in one small tool bag. I left the utility knife at home. I used to put electric tape over the lipo tips and then in a lipo bag. This time I skipped the tape with no problems. Charger was in it's own box. Just tell them when it's going through. Say, I have a radio controled car, batteries and tools . If you check it, I wouldn't worry about it... but it might get searched. I have had security swab everything for traces of...? I had a guard so into my foff I thought I was going to miss my flight because he wouldn't stop talking... he even called his buddy over then I had to repeat it all. Bu Where are you staying in Chicago? We have a good scale spot in the city limits... are you here on the weekend? Last edited by johnnyh66; 12-02-2012 at 10:27 AM. |
