Of course. Since I have no children in the public schools, who do you think I've been asking to cover my increased property taxes?

Lots of options, but unfortunately, I think this will fall on deaf ears.
I'd lean more towards somebody younger, like a parent, aunt/uncle, older sibling, ecr. Don't mean to sound ageist, but is some goes down on one end of the school and the officer is on the other, should be somebody in better shape if they need to make that sprint.

well when it comes to what was said about might be more of a deterent to a person not knowing what they would be up against if they decided to attack a school , what about training school officials and certifiying them in firearms use and defense . maybe this way there would be multiple armed individuals to defend the children in any school across the country . just a thought

I was thinking from the financial standpoint. These people may not only be qualified, they may be willing to donate their time. Two or more eyes are better than one.

So what exactly is the point of having them around?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I don't understand the logic of having unqualified people with guns, being paid to protect children.

If they aren't qualified they shouldn't be there period.

Teaching qualification

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A teaching qualification or teacher qualification is one of a number of academic and professional degrees that enables a person to become a registered teacher in primary or secondary school. Such qualifications include, but are not limited to, the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), the Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and the Bachelor of Education.

I guess rifle range scores are not required

Had this very discussion here at home (note, a school district south of me, close to ScatterBrains, Turbo, Dezmoon, etc. will have an armed guard at EVERY school after the New Years).

Wife's comment, "So, we should 'lock up' the innocents and let the nutjobs run free??"

We both agree, something has to be done.

To go along with a few posts in this thread, I think a few TRAINED & ARMED people per school is a good idea. Whether it's a teacher, school admin., etc. I kind like the idea of a potential shooter "possibly" asking themselves, "I can go shoot a bunch or people, but....there MAY be multiple armed people onsite.....Hmmmmm....."

Granted, some of these shooters may not think like that (part of my wifes argument), then again, most of them shoot themselves rather than get arrested. So I feel some thinking is still going on.

It's been pointed out that a lot of shootings in the last 10+ years were in "Gunfree zones", sorta gives some validity to letting properly trained peeps have guns in some of these locations.

Best, "Wrong place/wrong time for a robbery" was maybe 10 years ago when a couple robbers showed up in a hotel conference room to rob the 200 or so people inside.
Problem?? ~90% of those inside were ARMED police going to a seminar!

I volunteer a few times a year at my girls school as a "watchdog dad". It's pretty fun. Last time I did it was the first of this month. Anyway, there was a cop there for a few minutes in the morning. He wasn't there all day, but there was a presence for a while.

The ultimate person to have guarding the school would be an ex military guy whose kids went to that school. Boo yah!

All of the schools in central VA have had local deputies for a good while. The amount on premise depends on demographics. More towards the inner city there are more and less as you move out to the rural areas. This goes back even before when I was in school, probably 15-20yrs.

I feel like its a good idea to have some local LEO on campus but I also think it should be handled at a local level. No funding from govt or military use. If you live in such a small populous that you cant afford to have at least one officer at each school in the county than you probably dont realistically need to worry about a mass murder.

Here's a better idea, build/move the police stations within a 1/4 mile of schools.

Problem solved.

I think this is a great idea, and the only thing I would pay extra tax for. Have a full time county trained police officer at every school from open to close of school. I know that my kids could use a daily dose of the law and that they would think it was cool if there was a police office that they knew and were friends with. I think it would be good for kids to have a real authority figure in their daily lives. I'd also like to see at least two other faculty members with concealed carry and extensive crisis training. Pay them an extra $5000 a year to maintain their training and keep them prepared for an incident. If I were a "shooter" and knew each school had 3 armed people to defend themselves, I would find an easier target.

Just my 2 cents.....
