|  1980 toyota pick up??
Well here is the deal. A friend of mine has this truck not really that much wrong with it. All it needs is the timing reset and the carb reset, a bolt on the distributar, and I think some kind of bushing or something on the shifter cause its a 5 speed. Its a 4x4, he is only wanting 600 bucks for the thing. My question is how much would that stuff run me to get fixed considering I can not fix that crap myself? And would it be worth it or not to get the truck and get that fixed. I am only gonna use it at my hunting club just to get around! Thanks!!! Please don't flame me I just need a little help is all.

MORE THAN WORTH IT, if it's in good shape, and that's all that's wrong with it. The shifter seat, you can do, I've done one, they take all of about 15 minutes tops. The other stuff depends on the parts you go with and labor of course.

80 YOTA'S ARE NICE, just check the compression first. the 22r's are notorious for motor issues. Heck the axles are worth 800.00 alone, |

Well thanks for the replies fellows. I am still thinking about it. I am just wondering how much the timing issues are gonna cost me. And I might have a friend that can hook me up on that to I aint sure though.

Well, if it just needs the timing set right, that's not a big issue, if it needs a timing chain and that stuff, it's a little more spendy because of how far you have to tear the motor down.

Damn I wish I lived closer , I am looing for a deal liek that . Need a new rig to just do running around in. I'd say put the money into it. You will see a small profit after wards if you decide to sell. Like stated above the axles would fetch you a pretty penny also . I never saw a problem with dumping money into a toyota truck , They make up for it in the long run. |

Well I am gonna get it I guess, hell why not? Must be a good deal I already have a toyota daily drive. Its nice but I want a woods truck, the ford 150 04 model cost to much to drive to.

Well I am gonna buy it. I looked over the distributor and I think I have found why the timing is off! It does not have a bolt at all in it, so the distributor just moves around and all. I will try and post pics and things like that after I own it. I am gonna put a 4 inch lift of maybe 2 and just run 33s. Gear it low and let that be it and do some body work maybe.

1980 models were 20Rs and came with a four speed stock (kinda weak and often suffered premature bearing failure). The five speeds that followed were much stouter. Jay |

Yeah but for 600 bucks. I can't pass it up! And besides that the motor in the future will more than likely be replaced. I will run it until its blowed. Its a oyta though so maybe the thing will last forever like the others I have seen, just change the oil and keep everything nice as i can on it and should be good.

There's nothing wrong with the 20R, you don't have to replace it, just rebuild it.
