How about the govt. Will not acknowledge the existence of Sasquatch due to the Spotted Owl?
I have heard that when the Spotted Owl was discovered in Oregon, it was instantly placed on the endangered species list. This practically shut down and bankrupted the logging industry in the Pacific Northwest.

Government acknowledge of Sasquatch would have a similar, crushing effect on the economy due to the widespread locations of reported sightings.
