Default Scale4x4rc.org = no more?

Unsure who here frequents the site. It's down right now, but hopefully it won't disappear. Still a few active members a few weeks back.

I haven’t been there in ages, but hopefully it isn’t dead.

Hopefully it doesn't go down. Lots of great old posts and information there. We should start a FB campaign. Save scale4x4.org lol

Haven't looked in years. Activity seemed dead but there are some good archived builds including most of Chip Cross' stuff, he was such a great guy!

For hard core scale SBG is awesome, run and managed but to great guys. Pardonmynoob is one of the most talented and humble builders in this hobby.

Many talented folks over there over the years. Still down today, wonder if the owner gave up/site cost too much. The same was happening here untill covid19, what seems to have been a forum savior.

This and scale4x4 used to be a really great place, but times and manufacturers have caught up and this is no longer the same hobby. It is more about having money, and all you need now is to buy upgrade parts and replace them on your RTR/Kit. Of course there are still a few that "build" their rigs and i applaud them!

I think that with the way that internet has developed we might be past the point being able to support multiple forums with similar content.

But I think y'all are right, there's still of good info on that forum (and some others), I wonder if there would be any way to integrate those posts into a dedicated sub-forum on RCC? I'm picturing a sub-set of forums at the bottom of the page that is basically just an archive of all the good posts from other forums that have died.

As far as I'm concerned this forum and SBG are pretty much the only ones I check now, and SBG I only check once every month or two.

I sure miss the forum and hope it just something wrong.

I'm also one of the old times on there, and I still build my own stuff, pretty much since I have to

Honestly I use that forum much more than here, because that's where I started.
I'm rarely on SBG.

I can be away for some periods, mostly down to my illness, not by interest.

I just got a reply from the owner.

The server is having issues, SQL that runs the database keeps failing.

He will run a backup, but the underlaying problem needs to be found and fixed.

So keep calm, site is not going away

Good to hear! I've been around both Scale 4x4 and RCC since the start. I wish they were still alive like they used to be. I hate following along with Facebook. Wish it would die...

I don't know about that. There's multiple upon multiple groups on FB dedicated to just a single model, so the issue isn't uniqueness It's just convenient being in groups with the Facebook account You are already using. The problem is Facebook groups are horrible for archiving information and lead to multiple newbies not searching and asking the same basic questions about "the best" motor, shock, wheel, tire upgrades multiple times daily. Most of those people in the FB groups don't know these forums exist. I try to steer traffic here when I can

Ditto, I also try to steer people here because of vast quantities of bad info info on FB.

It's weird though, we've reached an era where forums are dino-tech, the kids these days really don't understand what they are and what they do. I actually had to do a really thorough explanation of how forums work to someone on FB the other day because they had never actually used one.

I'm in a BBQ group on FB and routinely see:

What is "3-2-1"?

What is the best rub for xxx?

What is the best wood for xxx?

What is the best time and temp for xxx?

If they went to a site like "Amazing Ribs", all those questions could get answered in about 10 minutes of searching and reading.

Maybe forums just don't have the instant gratification factor of newer SM platforms...

Thanks for the follow up with them! I'd been hoping it was just temporary issue.

Agree on how horrible bookface is for doing much of anything, but i think the failing of that part goes back to when it was fragmenting since we couldn't convince most of the people to post about the upcoming comps and stuff over HERE on the biggest rc rock crawling site in the world...
"We made our own local forum you have to register on to see any of our events." and "We started a facebook group for it that's nearly identical in name to dozens of others."

Oh well. *wanders off to go yell at clouds like a crazy old man*
