How does everyone get so much flex ( travel ) out of there suspension ?

The design and adjustment of the particular vehicle's suspension, travel of the particular shock, spring rate/stiffness all cntribute. Too much 'flex' can be detrimental to handling.

Laying down the shocks more will get u more travel, but at the cost of control, and stability.
