Default Electric Harley-Davidson

At first I thought no way, but I think it's pretty cool:

Reminds me of my old Buell. They should have kept Eric around.

Just remember, that douche CEO killed Buell off because it wasn't conducive to the HD *image*.

That guy is hitting moron mode factor 10.

Not a tree hugging yuppie here, but I would buy it if I rode Hard to beat what should be some strong, maybe even brutal low down torque that an electric motor and provide. For me, not only would it have that low down grunt, but much like with me running E85 in my 200, I won't be giving even more of my hard earned money to some oil tycoon or sheik than I already would be for the rest of the petrochemical based stuff I end up buying.

Well, seeing as these bikes are prototypes that will be made available for consumers to try (ala Chrysler Turbine Car) and not available for purchase, I'm sure there are better ones available right now

Harley has intentions on putting one on the road, have for over a year. It'll be grossly expensive, poorly engineered, and just like every other bike they seem to allow on the showroom.

Yes, I have a major beef with the current incarnation of the motor company. Yes, it comes from inside dealings.

There are still some great guys there, but the current executive management needs a good firing.

Same thing happened at S&S Cycle.

At first glance I wanted to write the whole thing off.

I respect HD for their history and contribution to the motorcycle world. Admittedly, as a Buell owner and fan, there is some bias against HD; however, upon stepping back and looking at the Livewire project it's started to slowly grow on me. I do like some of the design, even though I feel some of it finds roots in Buell.
If anyone recalls, when the V-Rod (which has Buell DNA all throughout it) was released it wasn't exactly met with great fanfare because it was a Harley that wasn't a Harley... and is still a source of debate among the HD faithful. The Livewire will likely be the same.

For the Livewire to do well it's going to take a marketing super genius. HD has released smaller CC bikes to bring in the newer, younger, less experienced, and/or budget minded crowd. It makes sense that they would go for an electric motorcycle to reach the more environmentally friendly crowd. Though I've never seen a Prius or Leaf in the same garage as a Harley... this could change that, I suppose. (I have seen a Tesla and a Brammo Empulse together... that's a good looking combo.)

That said, I would still prefer the Empulse and Empulse R from Brammo. Brammo also has a winning E-Bike racing program to boot. There are other companies as well, ZERO and LITO Green Motion for example, who are forging ahead in the E-Bike world, and doing well.

So, would I take a Livewire out for a test ride? You betcha.
Would I buy one? Nope.

I'll stick to my Buell.

Will they try to patent the sound of this as well?

Good for them for jumping into the modern era.

Do you get an IPod with the sound of a Harley repeatedly looped w/ purchase?

The sound is part if owning a Harley...isn't it?

Thats the kind of move that will bankrupt a company like that. Itll never catch on. Hopefully they wont invest too much into the idea.
