| Why is night vision so expensive?
I remember looking at Generation 2 and 2+ NV gear back in 1998, and it was $2,500+. Looking right now, the same gear is... $2,500+. Why has it never come down in price?

I dont get why no one make a poor mans active NVG. What i mean the goggls them self with 1 or 2 screens ( see FPV goggles / VR goggles ) cant be that expensive, and nowadays you can get real light sensitive sensors like the Sony IMX 185 or 291. Off course they are not passive goggle light sensitive, but they will work really good with a 940 nm light source any animal aye will not see. The reason are i have made my own NVG this way, but i am in the process of upgrading to a digital platform and 1080p footage, but finding a small 5 inch LCD screen that can do 1080p is hard, so i might have to make do with a lesser resolution there, but the google will be recording in 1080p from both the navigational camera on the goggle and the camera on my rifle scope. If anyone made a nice cheap active NVG like that i simply would have to get it, dont have to be the real gen 3-4 thing that's far to expensive for what i would use it for. |

Night vision is still developing technology. That's why it's expensive.

The developments of NV have advanced past there, so... I'd like to get a Generation 2 or 2+ NVG, but the price is ludicrous. $2,700 for a simple goggle with almost no features isn't worth it. I was looking at some Gen 1 stuff, but with a 200 foot range, it's not worth it either, even at $300-400. | |
