Default Do you have a woodchipper, shredder?

I'm in the process of building a shredding machine for garden waste,
just keen to hear what people have or use to chip wood or shred
there stuff.

My machine is going to be petrol and will be tackling either tough
domestic waste or small rural type waste.

Im hoping to make a machine a bit bigger and more powerful
than the type you see with the briggs and stratton type engines
on them in hardware shops. It will have a similar size motor but a completely different blade/cutting setup so will hopefully tackle some branches 3" and bigger without trouble.

Just trying to guage what people have as far as machines
go and where they fall short, what sort of material are people
putting into the machines etc.

Thanks.

The key to body disposal is to rent one. That way, they can't pin it on you.

Why not just compost? Or are you shredding your crap to compost it?

Yeah, all of my wood working machines. I use most of my chips/dust for mulching or fire starter.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Sarra , thats what bags of lime are for.

Initially it was to shred rubber gromets. Particularly ones they throw out at work.
They throw bin loads of them away and i was thinking of shredding them and making molds
of different things and using the recycled rubber.

Then i found out they would rather throw them in the bin than give them to me. Yes, you read that right.

At this stage i was halfway through building the shredder so i'm changing direction now
to a waste shredding machine. More than likely directed at garden waste. Bigger
garden waste than your average electric shredder and more of it.

I have an ongoing back injury and will be off work in feb/march pretty much for good, then
i'll be on disability. Theres no way i will be able to work for 8 hrs a day,and would like to work
for myself. Either designing this machine and building/selling them or building my own
machine, putting it on a trailer and advertising to mulch peoples prunings.

They leave a pile of shit out the front, i come and throw it through the machine and leave them mulch.

I'm just not sure what peoples needs are. I was thinking of making it able to have a drawbar attached
(depending on how big i go) so it can be towed behind a 4wheeler/vehicle for use on a property.

I have that many ideas i'm going mad,not to mention spending my wages on the machine.

If anyone has any advice/ideas fire away.

Will they do palm fronds/vines and shit like that?

We have them too, people that come out and chip stuff and places that
hire chippers. If anyones tried to shred palm fronds they know the machines
you get in the shops will need the hopper taken off every 2 mins and
"detangled"

Even the hire places say not to put the palm fronds the machines. Mine shouldnt
have a problem with these due to the way it cuts the material.
