Plopped down the paypal and bought a new car last night. The C7 DP.
Ive been eyeing it for about a month, and after Spintires crashed last night i picked it up.
Painted it up in my usual livery.
Only took it out for about 5 laps, all stock, but i absolutely loved it. great handling, grip levels felt alot more realistic than some other cars. only took half a lap to get tires up, and i could consistently push the car to the limit lap after lap. never been able to do that right out of the gate stock. really digging it!
doesnt have the raw power and sound of the C6R and CTS-VR though.

even better its eligable for the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen Team race. and the short IMSA solo races too. Great combo!
Id be up for some laps

dear god

love watching this dude drive, and his setup is so sick.
wish I could have gotten the ffb feel right in project cars, the game had so much going for it.

Oh hell yeah, I can understand why. They should honestly pay this guy for the advertisement. Watching his vids makes me want a bad ass PC sim rig. I showed the vid to a buddy of mine at work, that knows me and my propensity for buying toys a little too well. His exact words; "Let me know when you got it all built and I'll come check it out."

well sunday my G27 took a dump. the common loss of center to the left. left paddle went out too.

had been eyeing the thrustmaster for about a year. decided to upgrade to that.
i wanted it for PC, but to also have the option for Xbox one. so that meant the TX servo base. i also wanted there biggest wheel. which meant the Alcantara wheel.

i was able to find a $20 Ricmotech adapter that let me keep my moded G27 pedals. no trickery, no software, just plugs right into the thrustmaster base, and it sees them as default pedals, worked perfect. and saved $100 for the standard pedals and $150 for the pro pedals.

i wanted the largest wheel, which was the alcantara wheel. just so happened to be a 8/10 replica of my favorite Ferrari, the 599xx 30cm vs the standard 28cm. Alcantara fabric is from the same factory Ferrari uses in Spa. has padding underneith. the red closest "main" button is a turnable two position rotary dial. and can also be pressed as seperate button as well.

size comparison

got it all setup. updated firmware from V48 to V50. gonna need to do some rigging to solid mount. sadly mount plate on the RR cockpit is hollow in the middle so i cant just drill two holes for the thrustmaster pattern. currently using the clamp mount with a couple old brake pads to span the hollow gap in the RR plate.

got to fiddle with it for about 30-45 minutes last night.
totally different feel. If i had to describe it in one word it would be "smooth" compared to the G27.
the G27 i could always feel and hear a pinion and spur gear feel. ie feel the teeth.
when you turn the wheel its just smooth like a real car. the FFB is also smooth. wheel is also totally silent. no zzzzzzzz sound when you spin it fast.
the paddles have a slightly longer throw, so you have to be more deliberate with your shifts, but no accidental double shifts like occationally on the G27.
Also found myself understeering a bit. possibly because of the larger wheel. it was like i wasnt turning the wheel enough.
over all first night impressions im anxious to get more time tweeking on it. you can definatly feel the difference in quality.

if XB1 isnt a concern the T300 combo is the way to go. for the same price i paid for the TX base and 599 wheel you can get the combo and basically get the pedals for free. the guts are the same. but the t300 has ability to go to 1080* for some reason. i believe its also a slightly newer base.

That's really nice Cory, congrats man. When the TMX dies, I'll pick up a servo base and wheel, as I'm totally hooked now. Gotta send my PC out for a recall repair, then I can get on some iRacing and such with you guys and try it out.

For the Xbox / PC guys, here's the same combo you'd need.

Got my HUD working with Project Cars. There's a few mistakes in this one, but I'm really digging the game.

Me and Tommy did a few runs last night.

before we did, i did some tinkering and found a few things i tweaked to improve the game.

Turned Soft lock off (under advanced wheel) soft lock matches the cars full lock to the wheel. ie so if the car has a 540 lock to lock , it makes the wheel only go to 540. i was over correcting everything with this on. lots of tank slappers. with it off i was able to correct first try and keep speed up.

Self Aligning Torque turned down to 35% (under vib and feedback) this is the natural tendency of the tires to follow the ruts in the dirt. i found it was always trying to turn the wheel away from the corner very hard. this was amplified even more if you were landing from a jump and there was 2-3 times the weight of the car on the front tires from compression.

Video refresh set to 60 (under video mode) mine was set to 24 all these months and it was limiting my frame rate to 24.

Co driver Calls set to "later". they are too far from corner stock this was a big help.

Engine noise turned down to 70-80%. this helps to hear the co driver calls better and hear team speak better. also brings all the gravel "tings" hitting under the car alive.

well my RR cockpit had the old style wheel mount with the two large holes that gave you access to the G27 plugs. well of course thats right were the thrustmaster hardmount threaded holes were.
i got sick of the desk clamp mount moving, so i welded up two panels and drilled the mount holes. solid as a rock now
havent made it pretty yet.

also got my new shifter in! won it for $103 on ebay brand new factory sealed.

it feels awesome! and can be used as a stand alone shifter on ANY wheel. even comes with conversion for seqential shifter or E brake.
it feels so real. and you can beat the shit out of it because the switchs are magnetic, not electronic. so it will last forever no matter how hard you slam gears.
i had to turn on "auto blip" in iracing. it wouldnt go into upshift gear over 4000 rpms for some reason. down shift was no problem. but the auto blip fixed it. i may also try auto clutch to see how that works.
